Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

Mike’s Eagles won. He was surprised.

Looks like your team got shellacked. Sorry ‘bout that.

In other news, Jays have won 11 of their past 12, and scored 46 runs in their 4-game series against Baltimore this weekend … and two of those games were only 7 innings each. 😲
The Packers seem to have one of these games every year under our current coach, so hopefully we've gotten that out of the way for the year. But when I told my class I watched the Packers game this weekend, one of my students raised his hand and told me "Aaron Rodgers didn't play very good". I laughed and agreed with him.

Not the frozen type, but I did that back about 3 years ago when we were getting hurricane warnings. I went to the store and there were people lined up right out the door and two complete loops inside Walmart's just for water. I came from Vermont so hurricanes were never on our radar. (too many mountains) Shopping cart after shopping cart filled with water and the price was doubled because of the rush. Anyway, being a novice I just bought a box of gallon freezer bags and took them home. My logic was in a hurricane one of the last things you might lose would be water. Yes, if the power went off you would have plenty of time to get water. Anyway, the storm was still a day and a half away. I filled up 10 gallon bags with tap water and had it stored neatly in my laundry area and I was prepared that if the storm did come through and we lost power I would fill the tub with water for flushing and cleaning along with a bucket. My neighbors were quite impressed that I thought of doing that. They had been to about 6 stores stocking up on water which they had to throw away because the storm went right around us without enough wind to blow out a match. I felt good about myself that a yankee was able to teach them a little something.

Whew... I felt a lot of pressure after seeing those 10/10's but I got it too. Actually a few years ago I took a full citizenship test, I was teaching the GED program and the students have to pass the citizenship test as part of the Civics portion of getting their GED. So I took it too. I got just a couple wrong on my first go, and I think the two questions was to name the current US Senators and my Representatives. I missed a senator and a rep. Oops, that was a little embarrassing since I vote in every election.

These questions did seem pretty basic, but then I've seen videos from like, Jimmy Kimmel, or Jay Leno, where they ask people questions about US history and government and most people can't name the 3 branches of government, and don't know who we fought in which wars....like they don't even know when we declared independence or from whom. I wonder how many people would be able to vote if they had to pass a citizenship test to do it. I even saw a video where they had a map of the world and asked some guy to point out his state and he pointed to India....he was from Texas, and saw the point and assumed it was texas. He didn't even recognize the continent of North America. I think you can feel really good about yourself that the only thing you didn't know was a senator and a rep. Not bad at all!

I have always been a history buff so to me those were as basic as asking what your name is. That said, however, the past few years have been a massive lesson in civics. We have been introduced to the Constitution and what it says more times in the last 5 years then I remember in my previous 68 years. Some learn and understand, some don't. It's been that way since the beginning of time, but overall, right at the moment, I think people are more knowledgeable about it then ever before.

Agreed! On both counts. Although I have an appointment on Friday so I have a 4 day week this week. How is your school doing? Any quarantines yet? We have a bunch at our Middle/High School, so I'm back to teaching kids in person in the room and on Zoom.
Yeah, we have several quarantined. None in my class yet. *knocks heavily on wood* We've had three letters go out to parents saying there is a case among a staff or student. So there are at least three cases in our building. I think they're all students. If it was staff, I think I would have heard about it. I think the middle school has been hit pretty badly, and our cases have trickled down from there. Our principal told us she'll let it up to grade level teams to decide how to teach quarantined kids this year, and we haven't talked about how we're handling that. But I'm sure it'll be sooner rather than later that we'll have to deal with it.

When I had kids quarantine last year, I just had them join live for morning meeting, then they watched pre-recorded videos and did paper/pencil work the rest of the day. It's impossible to do live instruction virtually with first graders.

Hey friends,
I was cleaning up the attic and I came across my high school yearbook (senior year).
Someone I knew back then was in a club that is identified in the yearbook only as:
C.O.E
*
One google search result suggests it means: "Character Over Everything"
Hmmm....maybe.
Anyone agree with that or does anyone happen to know what C.O.E. might have meant back in "my day'?
