Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

This past year I caught a couple of my students climbing on top of the bathroom stall walls that separate the toilet from the rest of the bathroom. I told the parents about it, and one mom comes back and says something along the lines of, "Oh yeah, he's always liked to climb. Thanks for letting me know." Well, to be honest, I don't care if he likes to climb. There was a child in the stall he was on top of!!! Hold your child accountable! Parents are the worst.

Disclaimer: There are obviously lots of tremendous parents out there who make my job a lot easier... but as always it's always the questionable parenting that somehow stands out in the crowd.
Back when my kids were in elementary school, some kid climbed up on top of the toilet and stuffed toilet paper into the lighting. I don't think they ever found out who it was, but someone smelled smoke and the teachers followed it to the bathroom. They were lucky to catch it before it actually caught fire.
But I agree that parents need to hold their kids responsible for their actions, but in our case, the teachers needed to hold kids accountable, too, but never did. My son was bullied so badly we ended up having to change schools for his safety, and when that all happened, even though I was having to come in 3 times a week to report new incidents, they were "shocked" to hear how bad it was. And no one was ever punished, even when kids were caught doing it. No one wants to be the killjoy who won't let the kids have fun. It was always my son's fault for "reacting". "If he would just stop crying, they wouldn't do it." It seems like kids get away with murder these days.

Costco has "locks" on the shopping carts. The carts are released by inserting a quarter into the lock thingee. When you are done with the cart you return the cart to the designated cart area and you get your quarter back. It does successfully keep people from leaving individual carts randomly scattered all across the parking areas.
Over here, that's standard at every store, except they take either euro coins or 50 cent coins. We actually have these special coins with a hole in them that you keep on a keychain so it's always handy.

We also have to bring our own bags to the grocery store, so I have fold up nylon bags in my purse, most of them either Disney or Harry Potter. The top right corner, white with black polka dots and Minnie Mouses is one, and the pink striped square that says "HEY!" is another, in its folded state. I have about 6 of them in my purse.

I wonder if our coins would fit in the costco carts. I could try to get one for you and send it to you if you'd like...then you just keep it on your keyring instead of in the car.

I should clarify that once we switched schools, everything was fine. He now goes to a special education school especially for kids with Autism and he is thriving there. He's in the high school now and is still doing very well, so it's a happy ending for us, though we warned the school before we left that if they didn't start cracking down on bullying, they'd find a new target quickly. I heard from a friend that one of the boys in my son's class became the new target right after we left, and he was ready to jump out of a window and had to be talked down by teachers and was removed from his class and placed in another year's class to keep him safe from the bullies. My daughter was still at that school at the time, though her class wasn't that bad, and my husband served on the advice board and he asked about the incident and the school denied it. So I'm not sure exactly what happened and what didn't, but they did end up expelling at least one boy over OUR incidents, and they were looking at a couple more. If my daughter hadn't been in her last year there, I would have pulled her out, too, but she wanted to stay with her friends for her last year of grade school, so we allowed it. But I am SOOOO glad to be done with that school and the more I hear, the more I wish we had left long before. But...with both my kids happy, healthy, and achieving top marks, it seems to have worked out ok, psychological scars not withstanding. Like I said, happy ending for us. I hope they are more on the ball now, though so no one has to go through what we went through.

I was at Walmart this morning, and I was back by the Christmas trees. They were playing Christmas music, and it made me ready to put up Christmas decorations. I got a small, pre-lit tree for my classroom. I looked for one last year, but they were all expensive. This one was the right size and it was only $25.

Why does a bucket of water need electrical outlets?
Our water buckets in the barn froze last winter, so now this winter we’ll be able to use the heated buckets that we brought with us from Wisconsin. We couldn’t use them before unless we ran a bunch of extension cords and we were worried about doing that and having the horses walking on them....

The Netherlands got to beta test it for 2 months, so I've been watching Boy Meets World and all the old old old movies, like the original Absent Minded Professor, Blackbeard's Ghost, original Pete's Dragon, etc with my daughter. Both kids watched Blackbeard's Ghost and loved it. Lot's of fun!! I wish they had Parent Trap II and III. They are supposed to get Flight of the Navigator eventually, though!
