It was supposed to have a/c but they never switched it on in the spring and it was built during the 70s so nothing was fancy except the rehabbed ground floor. Then was the dorm apartment with the bathroom that would not get clean no matter what, then in the second semester someone moved out and was replaced with some random that smoked pot in there so there was always ash everywhere. He made a mess in the common room and kitchen. So even after he was kicked out that place was just never the same cleanliness-wise.

Then I went off campus. Brand new building 2 blocks from the College Ave campus and everyone in our apartment had their own bedroom. I still miss that apartment.

My friend who I've talked about this with would be a perfect roommate. Neither of us drink, party, smoke, do stupid stuff (to an extent... all college kids do something stupid eventually, ours just isn't illegal! :D), and respect that other people live there. The third person we want to pull in is like that, too. The fourth person we want to pull in is still up in the air, but we might try and get my Ghana friend who took that trip to WDW. He would be the same way. I could see both of those two saying they want to continue living in the dorms, though. So we have some recruiting to do by the end of the school year. :cool:

These rooms are still standing and rented at Auburn. I only spent one year there. I guess I had paid my dues and was upgraded to a real person standard of living.

That freshman dorm was probably the second nicest of the 4. That college had amazing dorm options. Sadly the rest of the college was not as great.

I was less bothered by the weed than I was about the mess he left behind doing it (and the mess he left doing anything really). That and his last two days there was just a total... I can't think of a way to describe it without profanity.

There already are rooms like that, but, they are located mostly in nursing homes. I have to think that there would be obvious health hazards to a room configuration like that. There would be a very high risk of death through boredom. :in pain: At what point in your lives do you guys plan to get debauchery out of your system? :angelic:

I have a lot of fun without drinking, drugs, etc. I guess @JenniferS and I are just losers.

Why on Earth would you WANT to do drugs or get drunk (I do enjoy a glass of wine with parental consent on ocassion)? There's nothing fun about getting drunk the next morning, and drugs? They ruin your life if you start those. Personally, if I want a thrill, I go to Hershey/WDW and ride a roller coaster.

My DD room and board/housing was $12,500 and that only 12 meals, minimum was 10 meals. She watched the money her brother went through in the apartment. $350 (each) x 9 months (1/3 of the rent) then everything was electric, hot water, stove and furnace, things to watch for when you're picking a place as heating these places takes a lot. Their electric bills were high. Then they had a water bill and a Comcast bill for Cable, Internet plus deposits on all three utilities.They all had phone plans so no telephone bills but we did have to up his plan. We had to pay first and last months rent up front and one months rent security deposit. I worked marine insurance so I was well aware of the con of finding things wrong at the end of the lease. Take exception on the move in checklist to every single little thing, tiny stains on rugs, scratches in doors, cabinets mirrors paint and little imperfection and then take pictures of everything. I got the security deposits back but only because I had them documented everything.

When you start adding up all the costs and then food, as expensive as room and board was it was ultimately cheaper then his shared apartment. My DS was there for an education but he was also about the fun. The fun he had could not be had in a dorm, when he left Carthage he went to a University in IL and didn't stay in their dorms. DD was always a very focused kid and in college the same. No grade short of an A was ever acceptable to her, she had little time with a double major for anything but studying but always had a job on campus. A dorm was better for her as she didn't want to clean bathrooms and cook food. Not likely she could have focused that well here at home. We are distracting.
