Not turning this to politics, but it's funny you say that.

I watched an Obama supporting IRC channel that had hundreds of active chatters and even more lurkers self destruct due to the split opinion about Scott Walker and what was happening there.

More than half of the ops left, leaving us (I was a low level op) to reconstruct the botnet and a ton of other things.

The channel has never recovered...

It was a terrible time for the state no matter what side you were on. People were just so vicious. It literally split the state in half, and I know some people's relationships were destroyed.

Nonetheless, it was a fascinating time, too. There was so much passion from each side. I want to say what side I'm on, but I'll just end it at that for the sake of this thread not getting locked.

I had opinions, but generally sat on the sidelines (as I tend to do politically, even though I have strong opinions...when you op political IRC channels, it's best not to get too stringent in that respect.

I never have a problem with open discussion...even good hearted disagreements...but petty bickering annoys me.

IRC is dying though, at least in that respect. Facebook and twitter are taking over.

I'm good with discussions, but most people I try to have discussions with tend to lack knowledge, or start getting mad because they are always right. This applies to more than just politics; I find it happens a lot when I talk about sports, also.

I went to see Last Day at Lambeau at the Wisconsin Film Festival last year, which was a documentary of Brett Favre's ending to his Packers career, and they had interviews with St. Vince, and he was even snappier when he wasn't in his robes!
