So my mom called me yesterday:
"I have tickets to see the Capital Steps tomorrow. You are going with me."
"I already have plans for tomorrow. I'm seeing Gravity. "
"You can see Gravity Saturday. You are going to this show with me."
"I have tickets to the haunted prison in Philly for Saturday."
"Well I guess you aren't seeing Gravity!"

So now I'm sitting in my office by myself waiting for this show since it's a few blocks away from here. Me and my girlfriend decided that the drama she would cause if I didn't go is not worth it.
I'd rather see Gravity too if that helps. :)

Anyone been to the Skydeck at the Sears Tower (I guess it's technically called the Willis Tower now)? I've been there once about a year ago. If you don't get a foggy or cloudy day, the view is amazing. A bit smoggy, but still amazing. They have glass boxes that you can walk out on... scary as hell the first time you step on them. Then I went to sit down on it, and it's so weird when you look down while you are moving down. I recommended for some people to do a hand stand... they listened! I've heard on windier days, you can feel the building swaying.

I know someone who lives in the tower, so yes, I have. ;)

Wow!

Recently there's been a big kick to refurb old buildings downtown into apartments, condos, what have you.

Personally I don't see the appeal, but I'm sure others love the idea. After being in USX during a horrific windstorm and feeling the entire building sway, there's no way....nowaaaaaay I could be convinced to live there.

I could however live quite comfortably on the people mover. Or at the Polynesian. Yep, I could live at the Polynesian, no problem.

They converted an old high school down the street from us into condos several years ago, and they are really quite lovely inside. From the outside though it still looks like an old brick school building...

Pretty much every apartment I've been in in trendy neighborhoods used to be some old factory or hospital. Its like a requirement now. You place isn't cool unless someone once died there in a machinery accident.

My old high school is now an upscale living condos/studios. Ugh.

Haha same here. My neighborhood was literally built around the steel mills.

As you can imagine, there's plenty of bars.

where I live the hospital wasn't safe enough to be a hospital so they built a new one then turned the old one into an assisted living home for seniors

Lol not save enough for a hospital so lets chuck the old folks in instead! Makes sense to me!

Going up the StL arch is pretty cool, but I wouldn't recommend it to claustrophobes. Those cars are tiny, and it's a slow trip.
A few years ago, I was stuck in one of the cars on the way down. We were held there for 20 minutes or so while they tried to get the cars moving again. I was afraid that we were going to have to be evacuated. Not the best experience to have on my first time there, and if I ever go back it won't be for a while.
