I am going to pretend I'm a radio station...

<stands up and puts his hands in a steeple position over his head>

Can you all see the music I'm listening to now? <grin>

You can get it from the app store, but only if your user account is a Microsoft account. It's easy to switch over and saves your settings if you're in between computers. For example, my settings and apps from my laptop go over to my tablet or my brother's laptop.
How are you enjoying 8?

I had a laptop in college. The screen was black & white and it weighed about 15 pounds so although it was technically portable I couldn't brin it anywhere. And I think the battery lasted about an hour. But it was state of the art in the early 90's. Oh and the Internet didn't exist yet.

Wow I am old.
I think I saw one of those on You've Got Mail

The internet has existed for a LONG time...since the early 80s...early 90s it was well in force, you just didn't know where to look.

I did, and Usenet and other BBS's saw me, as did Prodigy, and later AoL (who I worked for)...list goes on...

I like it. I used that start menu thingy you sent me and basically it works like 7, except less freezing and crashing. I like that my settings go from my laptop to my RT and now that I've got office 2013, I can sync my notes back and forth between tablet and laptop and save documents if I need to. Though I usually prefer a flashdrive for documents

I have to connect remotely from my computer for my MS Office class and the server is still 2008. :p It's a fine server as long as I'm not trying to use the school's wifi to get on it.
I am curious what they are teaching in MS Office courses today, as I used to teach a few of them myself only a few years back, and the MSOC is terrible (MSOC = Micro Soft Official Curriculum)...

Office 2013 is slick. I have enjoyed it as well. 8, as a client OS, I have enjoyed.

2012 as a Server OS, I have not, for Terminal Servers...otherwise I like it fine.

Since we're in tech mode, @englanddg what is the average lifespan on a wireless router?

The reason I ask is that mine has been pretty reguarly going out on me and I have to go down and reset it. I'm wondering if I should call Verizon and request a new one

Yes, just as it's a series of tubes (that Alaskan politician actually gets little credit, as in networking terms, "tubes" is a valid phrase...)

But, yeah "Al Gore" didn't invent it, and he never said he did. He did have a hand in it though, making the US comply with...without getting into to much detail, open protocols. He sponsored the bill that set all that up.

Depends really. Average lifespan on any hardware is around 4 years. Can you get more? Yep. Can you get less? Yep!

If it's ISP (Verizon) provided, just call and gripe. They'll give you the latest and greatest for free, nothing to lose! If it's your own personal WAP, then there are things you can do to check it's health...but, considering the cost of your time (depending on how you measure the cost of time), it may just be easier / cheaper to buy a new one.

Last week it was how to organize your files. This week it's a Word tutorial showing you how autocorrect and spell check work, as well as changing the font and the margins.

All of which I taught myself by 5th grade
