When my daughter was a baby I used to rock her while watching Wheel of fortune. One night she kept saying "Patsybak" which we couldn't figure out, til we finally realized she was trying to say "Pat sajak". Her first words....

LOL! Great first words!

I used to watch WoF with my grandma when I would sleep over at her house.

She had a little wallet that we put pictures of her favorite things in, so I found a picture of PS in a magazine and put it in there for her - it was like gold to her.(mind you she was not even a year old at that point).

In 2010 the kiddo came to visit. She was starting Kindergarten in a month, and I knew the month on, month off schedule her Mom and I had kept with her during pre-school wasn't going to be able to keep going much longer. So, I thought, I'd take her to my happy place, so it could become our happy place.

She stayed with me for three weeks before we went on her first trip ever to Disneyworld.

Which, she thoroughly enjoyed...

But, my story. So...during the stay she kept singing "baw chicka baw baw"...and then mumbling the rest. Now, I hadn't seen the kiddo in 2 or so months due to various circumstances. I remember calling her mom and asking...um...where did she learn this type of music...um...exactly what was she watching? (it was a joke, sortof)

Anyhow...turns out THIS is what she was singing. I wouldn't figure it out until we were at WDW and the show (which I had never seen) came on Disney Channel in our room and she started singing along.

Holy cow - I never realized how similar those two "songs" are. :bored:

we just got in - went out to dinner with friends then played pinochle for a while.

When I was little we would visit my grandmother in Florida (after our side-trips to Disney) and I would always borrow her cards to play solitaire. I'll never forget grabbing the pinochle cards by mistake and telling her she had a broken deck of cards. I think I was 8. She then tried to teach me how to play. It didn't work out.

I never played 'til I started going out with my husband. His family was really into it, so I pretty much had to learn it. There's a lot a strategy, and a lot of dumb luck involved.

I can play...

Still prefer a good game of Gin or Rummy or Gin/Rummy.

Never got into Bridge (though I know how to play)...or Poker...

I haven't played bridge in a long time - don't think I'd remember how to now. I spent a lot of my college time playing 9-5 (High-low jack with the 9 and 5 of trump counting for 9 and 5 points). I was pretty fierce at that...

My parents used to throw Bridge parties when I was a kid and I was put to work serving adults food and drink (something which I recall brought me great pleasure...being able to stay up late and serve adults...SO COOL!)

Anyhow, after a while I began to learn the game, and read Omar Shariff's columns daily in the Washington Post (and other periodicals)...

Funny how that game seems to have disappeared. I haven't heard of people playing it socially in years.

My parents didn't play, but I remember our neighbors used to hold bridge parties when we were kids. It seemed like such a cool adult thing at the time...
