Well, it's definitely fall again. Last year and this year, crickets come in the basement. Then the cat goes down there and goes hunting. The problem is that she doesn't dispose of them completely, so I keep having to go down and vacuum these dead crickets that my cat has played with to death. So gross.

And she feels perfectly justified leaving remnants of the genocide, because she's made it clear that she's a hunter, not a grave digger. :cat:

Thinking of taking ice skating this coming semester. I need a PE credit, my school is offering it at the ice rink located near them, it fits in with my schedule, and it's pretty easily adaptable with my asthma to work with (unlike the other options that fit my schedule, which are basically are aerobics and circuit training. Nope). Only concern is the weak ankle...

I figure skated a lot years ago. The exercise will actually help to strengthen your ankle muscles. Although a good boot will give you some additional support, if you're just renting skates, the rentals may not be that supportive. (My boots and blades were purchased separately, as "custom stock". That also allowed me to position the blades correctly for my own balance point on the boots.)

So, what you can do is buy an ankle support brace (Ace Bandage puts out a few of these--can be found at your local pharmacy) and use that on your ankle while you're skating. They're not bulky—they're just a strong, flexible elastic "sleeve" that fits your ankle, for some additional support. Eventually, you won't need it anymore, but that's a ways off yet.

I can do that. Reminds of the one I went in Newport and since my college was haunted...

supposedly the town is built of top of graves from the American Revolution plus you have the big mansions....which almost all burnt down

Was it Salve Regina University? (I didn't know that was haunted! ;) ) They have some beautiful buildings, not to mention their most famous dormitory, Seaview Terrace—the Mansion that served to be the iconic visual structure for "Collinwood" in the old tv series, Dark Shadows. I've been by Seaview Terrace a number of times through the years, and I can't believe that magnificent structure was turned into a dormitory!! :jawdrop:

Tervis Tumblers are the best. Keep things cold in the summer for hours and hot for a couple hours.

That one is cute. I have some Tervis coffee cups, and I don't think they keep coffee hotter any longer than my regular cups. I like them because they're light and nonbreakable, though. Mine are blue.

Cross Country skiing or Down Hill? Either, boy the weather sure plays into that. I love to ski but I don't think I'd want a class of that, especially for credit.

Cross country skiing is a blast, and you get to see some nice scenery, all blanketed in pretty snow. :) Sometimes, you'll see deer tracks along the trails, too. It is also an intense cardio workout. I have to pace myself out there on the trails; it's easy to burn out, if you're not paying enough attention to your own stamina limits.

Cross Country is indeed a cardio workout, likely why I didn't like it so much, cardio in the cold frozen world not a me thing. I'm a downhill skier since my teens. Love it.

Meh, not that this is earth-shattering news, but in the interest of sharing every single detail of my life, I forgot to tell y'all:

Last Wednesday, I had a brutal allergy day. In between sneezing, blowing, wiping, rubbing my eyes, blowing some more ... I knocked out my nose pin.

Sadly, my nose was sooooo sore, that I couldn't slide it back in right away. I froze my nose with Emla cream, and tried to put it back in a half hour later. Despite my vigorous attempts, the hole had completely closed over already.

So, for those keeping track, that's strike three.

While I won't miss the upkeep and the PITA process of washing my face twice daily, I do miss how cute my tiny little nose stud was.

Maybe a divine intervention? No poking a third hole in your nose? ;)

I agree. Have never understood the appeal of tattoos. To me, it just doesn't look good. I don't think it looks professional at all. I would never get one myself. I also think it's best that those who choose to get one get it in a place where it's visible only to themselves, their significant others, or if they are on the beach. Of course it is a personal choice. Just my opinion.

My 9th grade biology teacher grossed us out with tattoos. They completely lost their appeal for me after that.

I don't get it either, so far neither do my kids. At the wedding this weekend the bride had one on her shoulder blade and only half showed. She looked pretty, a beautiful gown from the front, from the back my eyes just went to the half tattoo. I'm not likely to get the draw others love if I have not by my age.

This has been an awful allergy season for me. It's a constant thing. Also a lot of colds. No stomach virus though. I usually get one every September since first grade. I'm expecting revenge at some point.

My mom had an infection in her second hole in her ear. It closed up. She keeps saying she'll poke it back through, but then doesn't. At this point, it just needs to be redone.

As for me, I still want to work for Disney. They only allow the traditional ear piercing. No others.

Yeah, bad allergies here to this season. My DD is not opening her bedroom window 'cause she says she breathes better.

I only have a whole in each ear lobe. I don't wear earrings often, it is yet another allergy thing. Just not worth it.

That it was. I currently hate them at the moment and will never give them money. But it's a beautiful campus.. think it cost $49,000 to be an on campus resident now. I got the school for half off, cheaper when I was their (35000), because my cousin is a Sister of Mercy. If not, I would have gone to UMaine. Which probably would have been better. Sigh.

Seaview Terrace (or Carey Mansion) is back into a private home. Sophomore year, when we went to look at dorms, I was so freaked out about the mansion, I took a few steps in and walked right back out. I still worked there as a work-study checking people into the dorm. That was interesting sometimes being alone til 2 in the morning if a freaky building.

My dorm freshman year, brand new dorm, actually set school back a week so they could finish it. A plastic cup was in the middle of a table. When I woke up, it was on the ground.
===========================================================================

--Carey Mansion, supposedly a nun hung herself. The room is boarded up and every month a priest has to come in and bless the house.
--McAuley Hall, is haunted by a little boy who fell out of a window while watching his parents arrive by boat.
--Watts, Adam, a young boy who supposedly lived in Watts and fell down the stairs, after chasing a ball in the annex. Supposedly the little boy was a son of William Watts Sherman but there is no record indicating that William Watts Sherman produced any male heirs.
--Wakehurst - that on the night of the first snow fall, you can see a young woman pushing an antique style baby carriage around the property. A man walking from window to window on the top floor of Wakehurst, which at the time was not in use and was only for storage from the activities office. Story of a ghost dressed in equestrian gear who lives on the third floor.

I think that's it for now.

Do you use the lids? We have over a dozen of the tumblers. When the lids are used, outside on a hot day the ice will stay put in them for hours. My DD puts hot tea in them and will stay warm for over 3 hours.
