Why is there still beer left in that bottle...?!?!?! o_O :bored:

:D ;) :)

He had to leave the table to make room for what was left in the bottle!

My dad always skips my mom's family functions. There are very few of my mom's relatives that he can tolerate. The two aunts, her father (amazingly enough) and about three of her cousins are basically it. They also are very much into alcohol (I did get it honestly) and some of them have a tendancy to overindulge which I know makes him uncomfortable. Basically, they don't expect him to show, and the relatives who he cares about don't judge, and he doesn't give a darn about what the others think.

Wish I were so lucky. Unfortunately, I can't get away with not going.

Patience grasshopper. Soon your day will come.

Yep, very much loved our Girl Scout father daughter dances with our girls! Such wonderful, irreplaceable memories!!! :)

I have some awesome pictures of them dressed up over the years. Very formal and adorable. One year when she was 9 years old she was in a full leg cast. Spiff'd up the cast and they danced the night away with her in his arms (or so goes the story 'cause this Mom wasn't there!)

Mother Son bowling, well that did nothing for me.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.

Yeah, daddy/daughter dates beat the carp out of mom/son events. What's up with that?

I'm not big on family events either. They likely never end well one way or another.

My Motto:
Friends-1.jpg

The reality is that I can't stand most of the rellies. The few that I really liked over the years, have passed away. There's maybe 3 now that I like. The good part is that everyone is so spread out now around the country (unlike when we were kids, and mostly everyone lived in the same state). Took me years to realize/accept the fact that just because people are related, doesn't mean that there's much of anything else you may have in common with them. ;)

Happy Labor Day to everyone. Let's enjoy this day off!!!!!!!!!!!

@donaldtoo , I really liked those pictures you shared. I love history—every state has fascinating stories to tell. (Remember that recent, excellent post that @Soarin' Over Pgh did about Pittsburgh; I loved that, too!)

Anyway, when I saw the photos of Texas it seemed so different to me, in a nice way, of course. :) I think with work, other duties in life, etc., we only scratch the surface of what's out there to see, in our lifetime.

One of your comments amazed me—it was the one about how architecture in SA could never cast a shadow on the sanctuary. Now, that's good stuff, right there! It never ceases to impress me just how brilliant and caring our forefathers were. Oh, and by the way, that was cool that DWifey had a distant relative's connection to the Alamo!

We tend to think of September as “Back to School Month,” but it is also:

National Biscuit Month
National Bourbon Heritage Month
National Breakfast Month
California Wine Month
National Chicken Month
National Honey Month
National Mushroom Month
National Organic Harvest Month
National Papaya Month
National Potato Month
National Rice Month
Whole Grains Month

Wine Season and Oyster Season both begin September 1. And, some foods that don’t get their own month get their own week:
International Bacon Day (Saturday Before Labor Day)
National Waffle Week (2nd Week)
Biscuit and Gravy Week (2nd Week)
Vegetarian Awareness Week (2nd Week)
National Wild Rice Week (4th Week)

September 1: National Cherry Popover Day

Bourbon heritage month?

I knew I loved September for a reason.

I drink at home with parental consent. Legal in MD. I'm hoping to be on the CP when I turn 21 , so my first legal drink could be in Epcot. Let's hope.

I'll hope for you! 21 is great for the CP. Not that all want to d r i n k but it does allow you into those places that slightly older CMs go to hang out. I know there were several venues depending on the day of the week off sight that gave discounts they went to.

But my patience grasshopper was more for the skipping of family outings. (though a drink has been known to make it easier for me) When you have a career, a significant other, your own place it makes it easier to skip some events. That right of passage.

Yeah, daddy/daughter dates beat the carp out of mom/son events. What's up with that?

From having a boy and a girl, the girls were comfortable with the Father Daughter dances. Our schools tried that with boys and Moms and the boys bulked. Girls thought it to be sweet, boys trying to be little men found it repulsive. The bowling wound up Mom's socializing and boys mingling with each other trying to stay far from their Mom's. They even ate by themselves at other tables. The nature of the beast. After one time I gave ManChild the choice, he was cautious to not hurt my feelings (which I caught onto) and told him I was OK with it if he didn't wish to go...boy he jumped on that quick, we were out.
