I need to gripe.

I was really excited to see pics of the new Pineapple Lanai on the main page...until i actually saw the pics of the PL on the main page.

Thats it?

No flowers, not even a fake palm tree? No artificial rug design on the concrete? ....not even a faux wood stained deck? I mean... Nothing?

Ok, so its a walk up window with a sign saying pineapple lanai and a bunch of white, unthemed, terrible looking chairs and tables.

Color me very disappointed. What a waste...this could have been done SO much better.

:grumpy:

*retreats to Home page to figure out whats got you all knotted up.*

EDIT: Yep generic. Could be in the lobby Anywhere USA. I'm not surprised the concept of the new lobby is also pretty darn generic too.

Good gosh, how I often miss that. Good news is, as I've posted before, we're lookin' towards plannin' more than just Disney trips, these days. :)

I'd be slamm'm my head into one of those rocks after about 5 minutes. :banghead: I can't even look at the fake rocks in the FLE for long.

Back when I was a kiddo, the coyotes used to "sing" us to sleep at my grandparents farmhouses at night. We loved it! Never thought of them as a threat to us, but, we also always carried, at least, a .22 rifle with us back in the deeper parts of the wooded pasture. There were also bobcat, javelina, etc., that we wanted to be prepared for.

If I open my windows at night I can hear packs of coyotes just a talk'n. Good reason not to have small pets around these parts.

? Inquiring minds want to know . . . why would you be slamming your head into the rocks? Is this some sort of ancient ritual for offering your head up to the gods? o_O ;)

Sharing my own reaction to @donaldtoo 's pictures, I thought the rocky vista was amazing!!!! :joyfull: I could see myself trying to climb up (at least some) of that! :D (Sometimes, I think I was probably a monkey or other "climbing" critter in my past life . . .)

I've been pondering your comments, and I came to the realization that many of the designers that Disney hires now, just don't seem to "understand" what the guests like. (And, I realize that budget constraints are "part" but NOT ALL of this ongoing falderal . . .) If it was just this one location that wasn't up to "our" standards, I could understand, but there have been many that have been less than stellar (not all, but many).

Hence, my solution: HIRE @Soarin' Over Pgh TO BE PART OF THE DESIGN TEAM, TO SNAP THOSE PRESENT DESIGNERS BACK INTO REALITY, AND CREATE PRETTY THINGS AGAIN JUST LIKE THE OLDEN DAYS!!! :)

I actually had to look up javelina to see what that was (don't laugh at me . . . we don't have any of those up in my neck of the country; we've got lots of crazy people like me :p, but no javelinas!). The pictures of them look kinda scary; I wouldn't want to accidentally startle one of those while walking alone.

As for bobcats, I don't have any around here. They are found more up north (VT, NH, Maine) and sometimes out in western (more rural areas) of MA. They tend to be shy and hide from peeps, but they can attack if rabid. Up north, we have catamounts that also tend to be more reclusive, but I still wouldn't want to be in an area that they inhabit.

I have to wonder though, do the designers not "understand" what the guests like, or are we still stuck in the olden days. It is impossible to judge what is currently in vogue until we are able to let go of the past. Now, don't get me wrong, you may be completely correct about their not understanding, but, I think that there is an equal chance that we are just not accepting of the current styles. I don't know, just guessing here. I, personally, have no problem with either way, but, I have displayed time and time again just how out of touch that I am concerning what is trending in style.

Yeah, @donaldtoo and I have had many a conversation about time in nature. While I love my flowers and my gardens and a walk for exercise on our concrete riverwalk I have little tolerance for looking at mountains, climbing mountains. I too love the picture and I could stand up there and admire the beauty for about 5 minutes and I am out. A day let alone a vacation and I'd be anything but relaxed. Camping is beyond torturous to me and I won't do it.

It isn't that I have not done the nature vacationish thing. I've done a two week wilderness canoe trip down the Wisconsin river. I've camped at places like Yogi campgrounds where at least there were toilets unlike my canoe trip.
I've done fishing excursions. I've chaperoned youth to the National Youth Christian Conference in Aspen, rock climbing included and plenty of nature in July. Camping I've done multiple time but it has been on the taboo list for over 20 years. Done all these things, been there done that not going back. I even did sleep away camp for many years as a kid. It was OK but I wasn't a fan of cabins and bunkbeds out in nature and no A/C. My DS said no to camp, my DD went one year and was out. My DH in his young adult years did Wilderness canoeing through Minnesota and almost died in a massive rain and mudslides. Wet clothes, soaked food, cold, water ran through tent. 3 days later they hit a town and left the canoe somewhere out there. Done.

Now put me in Aspen in a lovely resort in early Spring. I'll ski down that same mountain a week and return to my room, go out to dinner, sit in the whirlpool surrounded by snow and a nice adult beverage. My idea of a vacation is a moderate on up resort at WDW where I am fed 3 meals a day that I do not cook and snack around the world, preferably not in the dog days of summer heat.
