I've been pondering your comments, and I came to the realization that many of the designers that Disney hires now, just don't seem to "understand" what the guests like. (And, I realize that budget constraints are "part" but NOT ALL of this ongoing falderal . . .) If it was just this one location that wasn't up to "our" standards, I could understand, but there have been many that have been less than stellar (not all, but many).

Hence, my solution: HIRE @Soarin' Over Pgh TO BE PART OF THE DESIGN TEAM, TO SNAP THOSE PRESENT DESIGNERS BACK INTO REALITY, AND CREATE PRETTY THINGS AGAIN JUST LIKE THE OLDEN DAYS!!! :)

I have to wonder though, do the designers not "understand" what the guests like, or are we still stuck in the olden days. It is impossible to judge what is currently in vogue until we are able to let go of the past. Now, don't get me wrong, you may be completely correct about their not understanding, but, I think that there is an equal chance that we are just not accepting of the current styles. I don't know, just guessing here. I, personally, have no problem with either way, but, I have displayed time and time again just how out of touch that I am concerning was is trending in style.

My take is it more Disney changing who their projects would please more, stockholders or guests of WDW.

I don't believe it is Disney doesn't understand what guest want or appreciate. I don't believe it is guests stuck in the olden days either, I hear comments about some of the 21st Disney decisions and these young'ns were not even around in the olden days.

I believe the imagineers would love to go over the top and their final design be what we expect for WDW. But by the time the plans are sliced and diced, final budgets, we get the type of end products like the Dole Whip counter with an industrial roll up window, white municipal pool chairs. Done. I felt this way about the new Poly lobby. They could design a new amazing waterfall rock wall. Cost won, a dramatically smaller fountain in the lobby for a fraction of the cost. Done.

I actually had to look up javelina to see what that was (don't laugh at me . . . we don't have any of those up in my neck of the country; we've got lots of crazy people like me :p, but no javelinas!). The pictures of them look kinda scary; I wouldn't want to accidentally startle one of those while walking alone.

As for bobcats, I don't have any around here. They are found more up north (VT, NH, Maine) and sometimes out in western (more rural areas) of MA. They tend to be shy and hide from peeps, but they can attack if rabid. Up north, we have catamounts that also tend to be more reclusive, but I still wouldn't want to be in an area that they inhabit.

We get the occasional black bear and and cougars. Coyotes love to devour small dogs around here. You need to take them out on a leash even in fenced yards around here. :cautious: We are in Skunk season now. :arghh:

Don't want to jinx myself, but I finally feel like "me".

For the first time in months, my bladder isn't on fire.

My new meds only made me severely nauseated for 4 days. (Could have been a week or more!)

And oh yeah, I'm down 14+ lbs for the month.

I'm back, Baby!

Amen Sister Friend. Finally! *happy dance*

Thank you.
It's amazing how you don't fully realize how wretched you feel, until you finally feel better.

Apparently my condition is chronic, so I fully expect ups and downs; but today is a BIG UP.

And maybe there was a learning curve to the chronic condition. Maybe next time you'll see the 'warning' signals and know it is time for meds again. My DH is like that when his Ulcers flair. It took a couple times but he is keenly aware of the signals now. *pixie dust*

My concern was not so much about what the "final" modern design will be; my concern (I'm just speaking about this one, small beach outlet at the Poly, right now) was that they opened up something with a temporary design (they'll be bringing in different chairs, etc., for the final version--according to what I read, anyway). Well, it also doesn't take much effort to at least put some nice greenery around.

As a guest, my first impression of the pictures posted by WDW Magic looked very blah to me. As a guest, I have that right to think what I want. If they were going with a modern theme, I'd still expect more embellishment (that can be accomplished in various ways), but with a more modern flair, so to speak.

You see, you have to understand that I used to work for a hotel company in the administrative offices. One of my colleagues there was the head designer. I recall a conversation I had with her about a seasonal, outdoor venue for one of the properties. She was frustrated because some of the items had not yet arrived, and I had suggested that maybe she put in something temporary for the few missing items. She told me (by the way, I'm not a designer; I'm an office worker), that the design team took pride in their work. She was representing a large hotel company and their standards were set very high; the design team did not "settle" for interim solutions. The rehab would be done once, and done with all the correct elements to give the "wow" factor to our guests. So, when I look at a high-end property like the Polynesian, I expect nothing less, even for just a walk-up, outdoor outlet.

Finally just went to look...
Oh my. WTH?!?!?!?!?! Even outlet mall food courts have better theming than that.

Yeah, this rehab on a whole doesn't look to be an upgrade. Sure some things may wind up better, yeah the pool has had structural issues that had to be dealt with but when all is said and done this rehab might smash my deep love of the Poly. I believe when it is over I will have a new *crush* on the Wilderness Lodge.

Yep, since the first time we had dinner at 'Ohana, we've always talked about stayin' at The Poly, someday. But, The first time we had an ADR at WCC, it was love at first site with WL. And, now with what's happening (although, we will reserve final judgment for the finished product) at The Poly, it looks like WL is, hands down, going to be our Deluxe dream.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.

IC is diagnosed by process of elimination. Sadly, lots of trial and error and prescription modification along the way. It's the nature of the beast.

Wilderness Lodge is beautiful; I love the rustic, yet chic, style. I actually stayed there the year it first opened, and it was the first "deluxe" resort at WDW that I had ever stayed in (prior to that, I had only stayed in various hotels off-property). If you go, try to get one of the upper-level floors.

The very top floor is club level (or was—not sure now with what the heck they may be doing with a DVC expansion at the hotel). I've stayed a few times over the years (with discounts, for maybe 3-4 nights) on the club level and it was lovely, and the private lounge was very convenient. There are plenty of tables and chairs, and it's a great view to look down at the lobby from that high level—I love the open floor design—spectacular. They also offered the same food selection as most of the other club level lounges. In the evenings, in addition to hors d'oeuvres, they also put out cocktails, wine, and beer. So, you wouldn't have to go far for your evening beer run, if you stayed up on that level!
