When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
Okay I'm back. Told you it would only be a day or two.
I guess I'm naive, but I don't care for people being deliberately hurtful.

FYI - it wasn't my feelings that were hurt. I'm fairly thick skinned. Just ask @Goofyernmost ;).
I was hurt because other people were hurt. Like I said, that's not how I roll.

Thank you for the PM's. I appreciate the concern. The core group of people here are outstanding folks, and I would be honoured to meet any of you and buy you a Dole Whip (float)!

I do not intend to reveal what ticked me. I discussed it at length with one of you already. At this point it would just be gossip. And as my mom always said - Gossip doesn't have to be untrue to be harmful.

Pity party over. I'm all better.
Now to go back and see what you've all been up to in the past 30+ hours.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
This reminds me that I ate at Famous Dave's for the first time recently. We ordered the big platter that had brisket, ribs, pulled pork, a half chicken, cornbread, baked beans, cole slaw, corn on the cob, steak fries and Texas toast. It said "for 2-3 people" but 4 of us shared fine with leftovers.
We looove Famous Dave's. For a chain, it offers pretty decent bbq.
We usually eat there on the last night of our Buffalo excursions, and bring home bags of leftovers.
Sadly, they have removed the mashed sweet potatoes (with brown sugar - YUM!) from the menu, as a side.

no other surgeries?
you're lucky, I had 9 surgeries including 2 "major" ones.
That was a common fun joke between my late dad and me.. boasting about how many surgeries we had. (he had the worst one, but I had the most)
I've had 7 - one of which was major, 10 years ago. Four were minor. One was the removal of 4 wisdom teeth, two of which were impacted. And the most recent one was last year's hysterectomy.

I go under very nicely. I wake up horribly though. I've been naked once. Restrained twice. And dry-heaving every single time.

I was happy to find out on Tuesday that no further surgery is necessary. So, YAY!

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
I had to take 24 hours last weekend, others had to last week also, taking a breath is important. Jen had a bad family day yesterday, as you all know I had 3 family members killed in a car accident, just a bad personal day.

As last night was unfolding, thread names changing and changing again my head began to pound worse than it did when I got that awful call from my Mom yesterday.

I just keep telling myself we agreed to a TRUCE and we were TOLD there would be a truce. The white flag went up.
I'm going to try and stick with that and move forward. So as members are unliking countless posts they liked over the past year or so, I have to let that go. I might not understand unliking vast amounts of posts but that has to be fine. We are here for laughter and we are here for each other when we need to be picked up by our bootstraps.

As @Cesar R M stated this afternoon, Such Silence. It can be a good thing. Go for it @JenniferS take all the time you need. When you come back we will be here for ya.
So ... it's not just me.

I will continue to "like" or "not like" as I see fit.
I have enough people in real life manipulating me. Not going to let it bother me here.

Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
I've been going through old papers, and came across an article from 1962 talking about Cleveland's SOS program. Sabin Oral Sunday - thousands lined up to receive polio vaccine - one dose per month X3 doses given every Sunday May - August. $&1/2 million doses were given - at ballparks, schools, fire stations, even camps. 90% of the residents received vaccinations. It was so effective because it could be given orally (rather than by injection) and also promoted intestinal immunity, preventing spreading the virus via waste matter.

I had every type of polio virus there was - shots, by "gun" (pneumatic high pressure injection) and sugar cube. It's hard to describe the fear this virus instilled - a HS friend's mother literally dropped while hanging clothes in the backyard, and was paralyzed for the rest of her life. She was on a chest compression respirator for the rest of her life - need to go back into the iron lung from time to time. She died in 1980. I knew neighbors/classmates who used leg braces and crutches.

I too remember the various forms of the polio vaccine. I can remember in elementary school sitting in the doctors office and her pulling the top off this miniature glass bottle and having me drink it and her and my Mom lecturing to drink it all and swallow, they were intense and likely why I remember.

One of my good friends my same age immigrated from Cuba and Polio struck both of his legs though not profoundly, he still walks without assistance but has a very awkward gate to his walk. My DH Aunt was in a wheelchair after about 25 years of age as she contracted Polio as an Adult.

Our school district when my kids were small did the assembly line vaccination for Hib that required 3 vaccines 2 months apart. Each Month for parents that wished their kids to be vaccinated after school by the board of health could sign on and it was very cheap vs what the doctor offices could provide and the vaccine was mandated by the state.

Several years later when the state required a dental exam and not all health insurance covers that either my board arranged again for the board of health to do screenings in the PE area to get all the students compliant. It is costly for our RN to chase down all these families and easier to just give families a different avenue to become compliant with the new regulations.

The problem is not with the "likes" in and of themselves.

The problem is with keeping a tally, and posting a leaderboard.

It's turned some people into a bunch of third graders counting who got the most Valentines.
^THIS.

It would be best, in my opinion, to take away everyone's individual tally.

Of course, it would be even better to keep the tallies, and have the number of likes be a measure the person's credibility. But unfortunately, people who never post anything constructive, informative, or funny would keep climbing the lists somehow.
