@MOXOMUMD just liked this post of mine, and I can't remember why I made a pizza run at 11:30 in jeans and a t-shirt...
Okay, I might have figured it out. I think I was at my friend's place in his basement, and our coats were upstairs. But we didn't want to go upstairs to get our coats because his parents' bedroom is right by where the door to the basement is. So instead we just left from the basement door.

Now the thing I can't figure out is why our shoes were in the basement but our coats weren't...

I still believe that someone made a mistake and that the death could have been prevented. Above all else I value human life. If it can be preserved, that's how I believe it should be. I take the death of an innocent very seriously. They are investigating what happened, but seriously, all those adults, with phone alerts, surely someone would have thought, "Hey, we should get these kids inside?" Someone made a mistake. They should be well-trained enough to deal with that situation, especially since you could tell it was coming. It came up quickly, but there was at least an hour warning.

Possibly. We have had storms come up on us quickly here with strong winds. Like I said I wasn't with the camp so I don't know what happened so I cannot sit in judgement. I was at our annual town meeting when a horrible storm hit our small town this May. My phone and a few others started sounding. Depending of the phone and the carrier phones kept sounding for 30 minutes, some after the storm had already passed.

My DD manages a waterpark for a park district. She is not allowed to carry her cell phone while out on deck let alone checking it nor are her lifeguards. It is locked in a locker. I have no idea what the policy is for those counselors checking or carrying their cell phones during camp.

My gut is there is more to this sad and tragic story than a bunch of counselors just ignoring children safety and their own safety and deliberately leaving themselves and others in harms way. Do the investigators agree with your determination? I've googled it and find the story but not any indication of negligence yet determined by the authorities. My prayers are with the families and the staff along with the other children. They must all be suffering. So sad.

Tell me about it.

We didn't have any tornado warnings when we got our tornado a couple weeks back, even though they knew heavy storms were coming. Then they didn't sound the tornado siren because they sent the weather spotters to the north of the town. The bigger tornado (that was a couple blocks down the street from me) hit in the south of town, and the smaller one hit in the north of town.

Yeah, we had straight winds, it wasn't a tornado but straight winds often do not give warnings and snap trees. Our town is tiny one end of town was perfectly fine other end had mature trees snapped in half. I posted pictures of the storm that went by my DD's University last year. The year before I left my DDs dorm in sunshine and got less than 8 miles and the tornado was hitting the town to the east of the highway, I had nowhere to go, no where to pull over, no warning in enough time to make a difference. By the Grace of God that tornado tore through fields and not us.

I have tomorrow off! :joyfull:

I plan to spend it going to the DMV (which I tried to go to today, but apparently they've changed their days from Tues/Thurs to Mon/Wed). Then later on my brother, mom and I are going to go down and visit my grandma, since my brother has Wednesdays off.

PS- It may seem weird that the DMV is only open 2 days a week, but around here they DMV employees work at various locations around this area. For example, Mon/Wed they are here, and the other days they'll be in other towns' DMVs around this part of the state.

Ours DMVs are like that too. Our Post Office times vary too and close for lunch.

I have not made it through all of the pages, how is your Grandma have the Docs decided what they are going to do yet?

It's amazing how tornadoes work. The pictures I showed here of the dorm windows blown out, cars overturned, furniture in the middle of parking lots, etc... and then just across the street there are houses that are perfectly fine.

The house (really it was a duplex) that that one woman got seriously injured in had the entire first and second floor taken away, with only the basement left. Then literally right now door there is a house that lost probably a couple of shingles.

Speaking of that woman who got injured, she's since walked, and last I've heard/seen she's started walking up and down stairs. Not sure if she has come back home yet or not, but it looks like she's made some amazing progress. Her boyfriend/husband (I'm not 100% sure) has posted a couple videos on Facebook of her first steps since the injury and her walking up stairs in physical therapy.

Not sure how you far are, but I'll give you a quick rundown.

They have given her medicine via an IV to try and stop the internal bleeding in her stomach. If that works, they can do a procedure on her heart, and then if all goes well with that they can go down with a scope and see what is causing the internal bleeding. She had a blood transfusion last night because some blood levels were low. Apparently today she looks a lot better since the transfusion (according to my mom), and she's been sitting up in a chair today, which I don't think she's been doing at all since this all occurred.
