It's amazing how tornadoes work. The pictures I showed here of the dorm windows blown out, cars overturned, furniture in the middle of parking lots, etc... and then just across the street there are houses that are perfectly fine.

The house (really it was a duplex) that that one woman got seriously injured in had the entire first and second floor taken away, with only the basement left. Then literally right now door there is a house that lost probably a couple of shingles.

Speaking of that woman who got injured, she's since walked, and last I've heard/seen she's started walking up and down stairs. Not sure if she has come back home yet or not, but it looks like she's made some amazing progress. Her boyfriend/husband (I'm not 100% sure) has posted a couple videos on Facebook of her first steps since the injury and her walking up stairs in physical therapy.

Amen! Good for her.

Have you looked at your campus? Any reports of when they will get all that damage restored? Some of that looked pretty extensive on campus.

Not sure how you far are, but I'll give you a quick rundown.

They have given her medicine via an IV to try and stop the internal bleeding in her stomach. If that works, they can do a procedure on her heart, and then if all goes well with that they can go down with a scope and see what is causing the internal bleeding. She had a blood transfusion last night because some blood levels were low. Apparently today she looks a lot better since the transfusion (according to my mom), and she's been sitting up in a chair today, which I don't think she's been doing at all since this all occurred.
I think I skimmed through some of this posts too fast, since I didn't know that. Hope she completely recovers soon!

My NAP keeps beckoning me, but new messages about the Sorcerer's Apprentice contest keep popping up in my inbox. Oh well, it can wait a few more minutes (famous last words).

Poor her. The scope is a pretty simple procedure, they didn't knock out my DH or my Mom when they had it just heavily sedated. It is quick and it is one of those procedures that they immediately know the results (if they immediately share them with you or not.) The drugs generally work pretty quickly depending on how large of a hole there maybe in her tummy. When they first found my DH it was the entire length of the bottom and very serious. I'm glad they are being cautious and monitoring her. Prayers. Boy lots of prayers here lately. We need an up swing in our happenings around here.

Okay, I might have figured it out. I think I was at my friend's place in his basement, and our coats were upstairs. But we didn't want to go upstairs to get our coats because his parents' bedroom is right by where the door to the basement is. So instead we just left from the basement door.

Now the thing I can't figure out is why our shoes were in the basement but our coats weren't...

Their butler checked 'em at the door...? o_O

;) :)

So glad to hear. Sounds like things are goin' in a good direction.
Prayers for her and all of y'all that it continues to go that way. :)

Governor ready to send State Troopers into Chicago to help police end the violence. Oy

Taste of Chicago is about to Launch.

Recently, I heard on the national news report about the summer mayhem in Chicago. Good grief. I hope things get under control, and the city gets back to normal. Chicago is a wonderful city with many positives, and recent incidents could tarnish its reputation. As is usually the case, it's always a minority of misfits wreaking havoc. Unfortunately, those types of stories always make the headlines.

Not even joking, you guys (gals, fish, narwhals, trash cans...whatever) should really are this thraed into a book.

The book would need a "like" button to get the approval of our marketing department.

The Canadian Dollar is back up to 94 cents USD, but is expected to be back down to 90 cents within a month or so. Guess who's going to get her US money tomorrow.

Also, it's really looking like we may be buying a cheapie condo in Florida. Sadly, not for another year. And of course, it depends where our dollar sits at that time. Hubby mentioned he found a couple of properties on line that interest him.
My only requirements - < an hour to WDW, < an hour to the beach.

How many guest rooms? Just wondering for no particular reason at all...

I ate the three musketeers...

I hope it was them and not Robin and his merry men!!

Even my son was telling me about the goings-on in Chicago.
I said, "Are you sure Chicago? And not Detroit?"

He definitely confirmed Chicago, and went on to give me all the details. And of course, all the reasons why.
You know - because he's a teenager who knows everything!

On an unrelated note, his hero, Marc Emery is being released from a U.S. jail today.

Well my plan to "get up and stay up" today is a big ole fat NO!

I didn't get to sleep until after 3:00, and got up at 6:30. I'll be back from the work/school run by 8:05.

Then I have to pick up my Auntie for 9:30, and we have to go to the lawyer's office (for the new NGO in Africa).

In a perfect world, I will be home by 11:00.

It's also the cleaning lady's full day here (8 hrs vs. 4), so I will have zero chance to nap on the couch. Ergo, I might as well crawl back into bed for a full hour or so, instead of 20 mins on the couch.

All in favour, say AYE.
