Ok - thanks for asking! His back (he says) is better but I can see he is still in pain. But he is moving around and it does seem to be getting better each day so I guess we just have to be patient as it is a slows process. He's definitely recovered from the reaction that had him hospitalized. We have dinner at his mom's on Thursday so I'm going to pick up a cheesecake on the way.

2 years when we were pricing vacations it was only $100 difference overall between POR and WL. The deluxes were (I believe) 30% off and the mods 25% off with our PIN so we went with WL.

Glad to hear that your husband is feeling a bit better. The toughest part of being a patient, is being patient. Just keep encouraging him, and with your emotional support, he'll be well again soon enough.

Through the years, I've seen all kinds of room prices. Sometimes, monitoring the reservation sites from one day to the next can produce dramatic increases or decreases. Also, be sure to check at odd hours, as an over-abundance of rooms (that might have just been released from a room block hold) may become available at midnight, 4:00 AM, 7:00 AM, etc. There are also last-minute (week of) deals to be had, as the general managers want to quickly unload these available rooms. (I used to work for a hotel company.)

Wilderness Lodge is one of my favorites—gorgeous, impressively themed design, and relaxing. Haven't stayed there for maybe 5 years (as I like to also try other properties, and at a reasonable rate), but out of all the deluxe resorts, this is my favorite. The past few years, I've been staying at the Swan—outstanding location and very reasonable prices with my AAA discount (including a 20% discount at many of their restaurants).

My DD didn't wind up going to Tulane but it was in her final 2. For the most part Tulane and the Garden District were not overly impacted by Katrina, it is still beautiful and all the mansions in that Garden District and the vast park across the street are still intact. Both hotels we stayed in both the Garden District and in the Hotel attached to the mall across from the casino on the water were over the top beautiful. My DD was 18 on our trips and we did Bourbon Street. Anything beyond that area got to dicey for her and I to explore. We took the trolley many times back and forth from the Garden to the Bourbon area without issue. We had so much fun and it was so pretty during the Spring. We loved everything about Tulane.
At the time my DD attended Tulane, N.O was not exactly a hub of wonderfulness. The police were being investigated for corruption and crime was high. She actually spent most of her time on campus and only went outside if she was with a group of people. In fact, I had to convince her to go to Mardi Gras during her last year because I thought that as she got older she would regret not at least witnessing it once. Wouldn't you know it, she had her pocket picked and lost $20 and her Tulane ID. She also had her Credit Card stolen out of her purse while in the library on campus. By the time she noticed it was missing, they had managed to charge over $1000.00 to it.

She called me one evening and told me that someone was shot right out in front of her on campus apartment. I told her that she could have gone all day without telling me that story. My parental instincts were kicking in and telling me to find a way to protect her, but, she was in New Orleans and I was in Vermont.

We did have a good time on Parents weekend and at Graduation. My 77 year old mother came with us and she had a great time on Bourbon St., we did a dinner cruise on the Natchez side wheeler, ate lots of great food and even went on a boat tour of the bayou complete with gators, etc. Amazing City, but, I still don't know how anyone manages to live there year round.

He was also the voiceover in Chevy ads for a while too. I think he grew up in Michigan and must really love the state (Its where Home Improvement was set also).

It's always interesting noticing the famous voices in different ads. I know The Dude sells Hyundais, Jon Hamm sells Mercedes, Picard wants you to rent from National, and Jack Bauer voices a banking commercial when he isn't busy showing up in person for tequila commercials.
When they talk about ads with celebrities.. the British were spot on, I dont think anyone can triumph this:
