Final grades are in for the semester. Nothing less than a B! I think that's a successful semester right there. My geography professor gave us all a free 50 points as a grade curve. That's more than the final was worth!! It probably gave me over 100 percent for the lecture. I got a low B- on the lab portion, but with them combined I got an A. Don't really feel like I earned it, but I'll take it I guess.

We've stayed on that side a couple of times over the last few decades. I like it just fine, it is more rustic as are the rooms but give me that Garden District of Port Orleans that Tulane sits in feel, I'm a sucker for the Mansion charm and elegance.
My Daughter graduated from Tulane. That area, at least pre-Katrina, is something that has to be seen to appreciate the uniqueness that is New Orleans. I don't think I, personally, could stand living in N.O. but what a place to visit. No other place like it.

Just for you: my observations about the Polynesian. As of Sunday, the original lobby on the ground floor (resplendent with tropical plants and waterfall effects) was still there. Whew. Got to see it one last time!!

Backtracking a little: to get the full effect of what was going on in the GCH, I took the monorail from MK. Hence, I entered the GCH on the 2nd level. Automatic hotel doors open: All you see are WALLS with beige scrim (no clear signage either) all around the center of the floor. To the left you can see the coffee bar, and around the corner, Kona Cafe. Then, in the backside, to the right of the "Brady Bunch stairwell" (I actually really like that open stairwell), is a shop I think? (although I didn't actually look--I only glanced). What is lost: the beautiful open view from the 2nd level--again, just 4 walls in a square, with beige scrim. Sorry, Disney, this looks really bad. Took stairs down to level 1 and enjoyed the lobby for one last look.

Went outside. Families seemed to be enjoying the volcano pool, and the atmosphere there seemed festive. I wandered behind Hawaii (the one time I stayed at the Poly I was upgraded to Hawaii--it had a gorgeous view). Well, with the construction of the bungalows, the view is shot. Viewing the unfinished construction of all these bungalows out on the lagoon was unpleasant. They looked like a bunch of wooden buildings that just had a hurricane pass through them. There were no windows, some of the roofs were missing, there was a fence blocking part of that back beach area, etc. I felt bad for a couple out there on beach chairs with this "view" in front of them.

Once everything is finished, it will look better. Still, for the prices they charge, and for the changes and additions they are making, I am no longer a fan.

That's...i.. Can't. I'm so disappointed. I knew it was bad but ...yeah, that's really bad. :(

Mom and I are in very early talks of a vacation next year and I don't think Disneyland is going to work out. :(

Mom likes the idea of POR and I'm digging the idea of wilderness lodge (but not the price) so your pics are really helping to decide what's up. I really don't know what any of the resorts outside of the monorail ones look like so I love seeing these pics.

The mansion pools look fabulous, I could totally plop myself right there all day.

Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom are my dream resorts. I just can't swing the price right now. I think that what draws me to the Bayou side. It has that rustic style and the price is much more doable for me. It isn't as elegant as WL, but there the peacefulness of the place makes up for it. It seems much more isolated than it really is.

My dream resorts are probably Beach Club, Wilderness Lodge, and BLT/Poly. The prices are just too high to justify staying there (speaking from my parents' perspective, obviously, as most college students don't have steady incomes or parents who give them money for vacations).

My DD didn't wind up going to Tulane but it was in her final 2. For the most part Tulane and the Garden District were not overly impacted by Katrina, it is still beautiful and all the mansions in that Garden District and the vast park across the street are still intact. Both hotels we stayed in both the Garden District and in the Hotel attached to the mall across from the casino on the water were over the top beautiful. My DD was 18 on our trips and we did Bourbon Street. Anything beyond that area got to dicey for her and I to explore. We took the trolley many times back and forth from the Garden to the Bourbon area without issue. We had so much fun and it was so pretty during the Spring. We loved everything about Tulane.

OK so what's the etiquette here:

The train was pretty crowded and someone sat with me in a two seat row. There were three seat rows with only one person in them where there would have been a buffer seat, but he sat right smack next to me. Annoying. Anyway, he fell asleep as soon as we left. As people got off, rows and rows of seats started opening up. I didn't want to wake the dude up so I could move to another row, but I really wanted to sit by myself!!! What would you do?? I just sat here until he got off and now I am venting to you fine people.
