Off from work today (yea!), and early tomorrow morning I'm on a plane to WDW! Never planned a trip so close to departure before, but when my wonderful MIL insisted on giving me the money as a gift to go, last week, I couldn't resist! I booked everything just three mornings ago, for this Friday's departure. (Back home on Tues. night.)

The funny thing is that since I hadn't originally planned to go this year, I wasn't paying too much attention to the mechanics of the new ticket media/FP+, other than to cringe at the price tag Disney spent on this falderol. So this morning, I've been reading up on the particulars, and since I'll be staying at the Swan, I'll buy my park ticket there. I think I can just use the plastic card, alone, and don't need to purchase $12.95 for the band (since I'm not a Disney hotel guest, that is additional price for the card to be linked over to a band).

I could care less about the band; I believe the cards, alone, work in the kiosks. Plus, without any real lead time to schedule FP for rides, there probably won't be much to choose from anyway, on the days I go. I'll just try the new kiosks for grins and giggles, but I don't expect to be impressed with last-minute selections. Anyway, I like to just roam around the parks, and I've often been lucky to just "hit it" when ride waits randomly drop in the stand-by lines. There's no rhyme or reason to any of that; it just happens, sometimes. :)
Yeah, I was looking at the Swan for next time and then suddenly all the FP+ stuff kind of gave me pause. Mainly because I think this new system is planning overkill and my mind glazes over when I try to read up about it. I'm not going this year and will likely not be surprised with a free trip anytime soon so maybe that's it. Whenever I actually have a set time for the next trip I might be more open to focus on it.

I don't need a band. I just want the same access to the FP+ as the other resort guests (Someone said the window you can reserve is shorter for Swan guests (idk if that is still true) than other on-site resorts. So maybe we will do POR or CSR. I really liked the idea of being walking distance to Boardwalk though.

Doing better - bloodwork closer to normal last night and if it continues in the same direction this morning he can come home. He's definitely feeling better - although his back is still bothering him. Between the epidural shots (which can take up to 2 weeks to be effective) and the spinal tap to check for infection (there was no infection - hopefully they didn't drain any of the meds from the original shot) it's sore. He's calling/texting/facetiming a lot more today so he's definitely homesick and looking to get out of there.

NO!! But I refuse to use the campground latrines - I'd rather use the woods. I'm not really a high maintenance girl and camping really brings that out.

My friend stayed there last year, and while they were nice, she said there was a strange campground smell that kind of bothered her.
It's the smell of River Country rotting. :cyclops:

We've camped a lot, and I even lived in my little tent with my cat for the summer when I first moved to Flagstaff. We tent camped with the kids when they were little and eventually graduated to air mattresses in the tent and after one exceptionally rainy week in Assoteague, we finally bought a pop-up tent trailer. It now has become our official "guest house" in the summer.
We started with one of those pop-up campers, but upgraded to a hardshell with tent beds that fold out.

Not sure if anyone else has said anything, but I'll share my experiences with FP+ and planning late.

When we went over spring break, there were still some decent selections the night before for FP+. They weren't the best times, but they were definitely doable and not at 10PM. We got some late afternoon Space and Big Thunder FPs (Splash was down for refurb). Our first day of our trip we booked a FP for BTMR about 4 hours before we were actually going to use it. We had it around 6pm. So if you want to, I'd assume you can still get some decent FP+s, especially for just one person.

As for the kiosks, when we were there, the lines were HUGE for every one. Granted this was spring break, but still. The non MagicBand users, or the ones who didn't bother booking ahead, were rushing to the kiosks to beat out the crowds at rope drop.

As for actually using the new "turnstiles", it's very easy. IMO some were overreacting to that, but it speeds things up honestly. Not worth 1 billion dollars, but sped things up regardless. Where it slows things down it at FP entrances. It's easier to just look at the paper FPs, instead of having everyone scan through. Plus people come early, and slow things down even more when they argue that they were "100% sure" they booked their FP+ for now and not 40 minutes from now.

But those are just my experiences.

PS- Have fun, and have some popcorn for me! :D

Now see, THAT'S what I'm talking about.

I have no desire to lay on the ground, getting eaten alive by insects and wake up in my own personal pool... of sweat. Especially in Florida. No thank you.

Plus, I need a bathroom. The works- toilet, sink, counter top, shower and/or bathtub. Clean towels, hand towels, towel rack, and toilet paper. I won't settle for less.

I guess I'm a hopeless city girl.

Our camping area didn't have a shower or non-porta potty restrooms. So my gf made me drive 15 minutes to the one that did the first morning so she could have her shower.

Even if she wasn't there I would have driven to take that shower.
