Read the books. Read the books. The theatre of imagination is far superior to anything they put on celluloid. (and I actually like the movies, but let your mind make the movies first, then watch the other people's interpretations)

I learned this quickly when I was little. Our teacher read us Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Later saw the movie.
The movie was fun but you didn't get to savor the Chocolate the same way.

I loved the young peoples book The Box Car Children (original) I daydreamed about living in a box car as I was reading that book, cooking in a kettle, I read that book to my kids later in life. A film wouldn't have been the same.

Indeed. He met a teeny tiny little college prep gal in line to get finger printed and that started that, he actually got along well with his roomies and her roomies. They all remain great friends. He came home, finished college and returned. I fostered a love of Disney from the time he was 14 months old with more trips than he can count, he just found a way to LOVE all things Disney. ;)

No you're not. That would be me, as I have no intention of ever reading the books or seeing the movies.

Wanted to chime in here with my 2 cents' worth. Seems like a number of people have neither read the books, nor seen the movies. Thought I was one of the "few" as well, but the more I read here, the more I think that the popular culture p.r. "machine" isn't necessarily accurate. True, there is a large following, regardless, but maybe not quite as much as the hype suggests. I have nothing against the books or movies; it's just that they haven't appealed to me.
