When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
I think paying is considered a sort of way of cheating.
many games seem to be converting into the "pay to win" type.
Okay, I guess that makes me a cheater, then.

I look it at more like paying to make my problems go away. Kind of how I operate in real life too.

I hear that. I get clothes for my daughter there at times because she outgrows her clothes too quickly. She literally skipped a couple sizes over the past few years.

Our 3 kiddos (DD, DS, and DD, now 19, 21, and 22) are 3 yrs. and 2 months apart in age. We did the Goodwill thing too, as well as yard and garage sales. 50 cents for this, 25 cents for that. Boy, did we save some coin. Somebody else's kids were growin' out of it, ours were growin' into it. All the stuff was always in good shape and little kiddos don't know the difference, or care, anyway. We were also fortunate that my mom and my MIL seemed to pick up stuff for them pretty often, too. :)

You shop at Goodwill?

I do. I'm on the front lines at work, I see the same groups of people every week. I have to "compete" with the women and it's kinda stupid. I don't want to be seen wearing the same thing every week. They aren't, but they're dumb for paying full price for everything. I buy a lot of shirt and skirts at thrift shops. I've repurposed long sleeve shirts into tank tops and skirts into dresses. It helps to know how to sew :) I'm not embarrassed by it at all. I find it a welcomed challenge.

Plus, I wouldn't be able to constantly update my wardrobe, just shopping at department stores. This way, if I buy a shirt, wear it once, hate it, and dump it into my donation box, I still got my money's worth. I do draw the line at under garments and pants, but pants only because I'm extremely picky about them.

I understand that. At my former restaurant job, management wore their own clothes. The only rule was dark pants. Although we were given a yearly "wardrobe allowance" (which equalled three outfits from WalMart), when you are working five/six says a week you needed more than that. Plus I tended to get into my work so there were times I came home with I don't know what sloshed on me. :) I'd rather spend $2 on a shirt that probably will be stained than a $20 shirt.

For sure!! My job isn't messy (unless you count that time the printer toner cartridge exploded all over me and my desk...my boss sent me to Macys with his credit card to replace my outfit!) but again, same ppl all the time. And those folks make easily two, three times as much as I do. If not more. Gotta cut corners when possible.

I've found lots of clothing with store hang tags still on, including a gorgeous black and lace ruffle dress that was $169.... I paid $5 for it. :)

Although, I'm not on the front lines, but, in the design trenches, instead, I am still occasionally called upon to meet with clients. Thus, I wear slacks, a dress shirt, and dress shoes almost all the time. Most at our firm wear jeans and everything casual. I used to get almost everything at Wal-Mart, but, have gotten everything since I started workin' at the mens clothing store from there at a massive employee discount. Even now, just coverin' those occasional closing shifts, he still gives me the same discount. DWifey is the same way when it comes to clothes, yet she constantly gets compliments on her attire by customers, coworkers, and management. To us anyway, spending tons of money on clothing that doesn't really make a major difference in overall appearance is just ridiculous.

Perhaps it's just because the Goodwill store here is in a very unsavory part of town that I don't even think of them as a viable option.
Ours is right next to the main university here. You can always tell when classes are about to start because they buy up all the furniture, etc, for their dorms/houses. When classes are out for the summer, you can find just about anything as I don't think the students take anything home with them. We bought an almost new mini fridge for $20.

Slowly getting better. Went back to ER again for pain yesterday and they diagnosed me with a herniated disc in my lowest lumbar. :( It's hell getting old!
auch!..
I suppose they told you to stay away from doing too much? (like carrying stuff?)

Luckily my city has a lot of colleges and a decent sized population. There are several goodwill stores to pick from. I tend to shop in the upper crust neighborhoods.

There's also a few local thrifts and a st. Vincent de Paul as well.

I don't shop in seedy neighborhoods.
