Latin was the smartest thing I ever took in the 9th Grade...it made English and Spanish classes make so much more sense. I don't think they even offer Latin any more, which is such a shame.

Perhaps that's why I'm still such a stickler for proper grammar and spelling?
Only a few kids at my HS took Latin. The school is larger now, and my sophomore English teacher now teaches Latin classes all day.

My daughter takes Italian in middle school. She's going to a HS this fall that doesn't offer Italian so she wants to take Latin.

I'm still stuck on 30....I refuse to cheat and pay money to advance!
I pay the 99 cents to unlock episodes, rather than wait 3 days for friends to help me.
I also use the spinner every day to collect my free daily booster.
Not sure, I consider either of these things cheating.

Cheating, to me, involves resetting your iPhone/iPad clock to get extra lives, or downloading cheat/hack apps. This, I do not do.

I went to a start up private school in 7th and 8th grades. There was no cafeteria...we all ate in the classroom.
We had no option but to throw the garbage into the trash can.

The cool thing about that was that I learned so much in those two years that the next four years were a breeze...excepting Latin and Pre-Calculus.

You're right - A good background in Latin helps with a lot of languages - even English!

I took Latin for 6 years. It helped me immensely on my verbal SATs. Even now, on the random occasion I don't know what a word means, I can usually break it down to its Latin roots and figure it out.

I don't remember Latin being an option when I was in high school. I wonder if it was ever an option there.

Blah. As a little kid we had to take Latin in Catholic Prep school. Nothing like stumbling through Latin when you are still struggling to read and write in English. Our Wednesday school masses were all in Latin as were about half of the Sunday masses. Ya, didn't get much out of Church. Was so happy to move and move into a Public school system that was equally challenging without the torture.
