I spent this morning trying to set up a pump under my mom's house because her sump pump burned out. 3 feet of water because of the rain and the melted snow on Wednesday. I really don't want to deal with it anymore so I would take the snow too if means the water flowing in there more slowly than another deluge.
Right now I have a 5" deep, about 6x6 foot area of solid, pure ice on a small section of our driveway near the front door. I have no idea where it is coming from, it grows thicker and bigger each day. 25 feet from a water main and 30 from the sewer line. Either it is going to melt and just fade away or there is going to be a great reveal.

About 3 and a half years ago, we had a big rainstorm. Our sump pump (that was only around 5 years old because we built this house new) decided to not work. Our basement flooded, and we had to rip out all of the carpet and baseboards around the bottoms of the walls. We were able to save some, and the vinyl flooring we had in the bathroom didn't need to be torn out. A bunch of boxes in our back storage room were soaked, and we had to clear out everything down there to clean out. When the plumber came in, he saw that the sump pump wasn't working, then shook it really hard and it was back to normal. In the end, the sump pump looked VERY cheap (which it seems like the builder did for most of the house), and we ended up getting a new one (or at least part of it, I can't remember). Not a fun experience!
I needed like waterproof clothing to climb into her crawl space. I don't want to ruin my wetsuit so I had to hang in from the crawl space opening and try to set the temporary pump onto the dirt floor. I put it in a bucket filled with holes so it wouldn't be sucking on the dirt floor, but it kept floating up. So I'm hanging upside down, pushing this thing into the water until there is enough water inside for it to sink, heavy snow falling as I do it. I didn't install the level because I was being yelled at to hurry up the whole time so hopefully the water levels dont get low enough to burn this one out. It was still over a foot to go when I called 12 hours after putting this in.

The streets flood here at high tide when there is lots of rain/full moon. And that has been happening since Wednesday. Lots of fun for the salt trucks probably. Hopefully the salt water mixed in the flood water makes it easier to deal with.

My street wasn't too bad, except for the iced over puddle at the entrance of my driveway. The snow covered everything again so I can't tell.

Have I mentioned how sick of this particular winter I am?

I'm starting to feel stir crazy with all these snow storms. I know I went out to dinner last night, but I really felt like doing something tonight and then we looked outside and thought, "Ugh it's still snowing and the roads are all snow and ice. Next weekend."

I'm getting black screens for everything I try to watch on Netflix too so the inability to get House of Cards to work isn't helping.

That is so crazy. I am holding my breath for Monday. It is to be warmer this week, I am hoping for a melt but a slow snow melt. Our property tips away from the house however that doesn't work with snow as it melts where it landed and there are mega snow piles to block the flow.

I want Spring!

We got out yesterday too thankfully but it wasn't enough for me. We have now had snow the last 5 Saturdays. All winter it has been pretty much every other day.

Thank goodness it's FINALLY hitting the upper 70's here this week. It''s still cool at night but I can handle temporary winter weather...this Arctic Blast stuff was for the birds. (or least for the people who are not used to dealing with it)

No, but there is a movie that involves sharks and tomatoes. It's called Sharkmato, and it's a pretty extraordinary film. You should check it out!

Sounds like a great movie!

lots of dead squirrels then? D:

Oh god I LOVE that commercial! I laughed really loud at it!

And? everything is related to everything.
Shrimp are like sea cockroaches, yet everyone loves them.

I suppose I like them because they are indeed rare in Mexico..
to use the space at 100%, most houses do not even have a backyard or any space around the house.. they build the entire area.. thus no wildlife.. :/

as long they dont carry disease... who cares if they're "rats".
They're all part of the circle of life and all have a defined trait in nature

They do not take you seriously ;)

Wow, how good tastes the Buffalo?

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN.. that looks really really good! D:
Not real sure if I am a fan of that many multi-quotes...

I ate buffalo last week and it was freaking amazing.

If someone offered me sea cow, I'd probs eat it.

Buffalo (or bison) is excellent for meatloaf (spray cooking spray at the bottom of a loaf pan, then: 1 pd. of ground bison, a packet of Lipton onion soup mix, some ketchup, one egg, and up to 3 tablespoons of Worcestershire Sauce; 350 degree oven, 1 hour). I don't use any breadcrumbs in this mix, because bison is leaner, and bread crumbs might dry it out a bit.

Because bison is leaner, I'm not a fan of it in a grilled burger. I think ground beef is much better for burgers. Never tried buffalo steaks, as I'm not sure I'd know how to cook those properly.
