People are doing that here, too. I think it's too cold to step outside for that long.

Yeah and I don't need more ice. I shoveled and snowblowed the property however the blowing has my driveway with about 3" of caked down snow, sidewalk and patio caked downed and drifted snow too.

Throwing water around just seems counterproductive.

My daughter and I blew bubbles outside. The bubbles are SUPPOSED to freeze and not pop. Ours popped. I guess it's not cold enough here. o_O

I'm tired of layers!

and not these kind...

It took me a few seconds...and then I laughed. :D

I was kind of excited to put on layers today. My windows suck very badly and since I have almost more windows than actual walls, a lot of outside air gets in. I KNOW IT ISN'T BAD HERE AND I HAVE NO RIGHT TO COMPLAIN, but the house just can't get actually warm, so I'm all bundled up.

I haven't put on layers since I last left a northern climate. It's kind of fun when it's just for a day or two. :)

(Does that sound like I'm rubbing it in? So not. I had a two friends way below zero with no power last night. I wouldn't make fun.)

I have a jersey on under my sweatshirt, jeans, heavy socks and slippers, for being inside.

BTW, I hate winter.
You sound so much like me before the move.

I have a waffle shirt under the sweatshirt, my sweatpants and my dad's big, warm socks on. I kept them because he wore them all the time, but I know he'd approve of me making use of them.

My son is happy. His school shut down for two days, so he has one day to drink and one to study. At least someone is happy about it, lol. Students! And teachers, I'm sure. :)

Our school never closed for cold. We even had a winter where the heating system didn't work for one whole wing, and they still held classes there - for weeks!

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
It's so cold here that salt will not melt the ice on the roads.
MTO is using their standard brine mixture with BEET JUICE added.

On the plus side, temps will be a degree above freezing, starting Friday.

Someone who shall remain nameless is going to owe some sympathy come August! When you all have your "heat wave", I will remind you of this.

Hmpf.
I love the heat. Not troubled by humidity either. The second I get off the plane at MCO though, my hair gets an inch or two shorter.

Hubby is not so tolerant.

Four years of high school, I didn't get a single day off for cold or snow. We went to -17 one night and had school on both days surrounding that night. Every single other school called off. The news even said, "Unless your kids go to school in City, they don't have to go to school." We were the ONLY school open. Even the teachers were complaining about it.

They called off today, though. I checked.

Kids just aren't as tough these days so they had to close.

Except for my old school. They will never close for cold. This is Jersey, we ain't a bunch of wusses! Unless the buses refuse to start, then they start to panic.

Wisconsin:

On the Lac du Flambeau reservation in northern Wisconsin, a woman who couldn't start her minivan in temperatures of minus 23 degrees escaped injury when she slid hot coals under the vehicle to warm the engine chamber. The coals started a fire that caused damages to the vehicle. Duh.
