Kids had a 2 hour delay. I missed the message last night so I found out when we GOT to school at 9:05 and the parking lot was empty. Luckily hubby's jobsite was shut down due to cold so he was able to take them so I could get to work.

By the way - the ice rink is finally frozen and relatively smooth, due to yesterday's rain. But with the windchill it's -10 degrees so it's too cold to be outside.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
I was dreaming that when I woke up it would be nice and warm. Ha! -10 with a -34 wind chill. :( My house creaked all night and I kept getting up to check my skylights. Kept the faucet dripping all night to prevent frozen pipes. Unfortunately I had to venture outside, some siding came loose, and my breath had formed little icicles on my scarf after a few minutes. It hurts to breathe out there.
Our house was making some pretty weird noises last night too.
Hubby was brushing his teeth last night, when a particularly loud boom occurred. He comes into the bedroom and says, "Did you fall out of bed or something?" just as the house heaved again.
Scary stuff!

OK, I know you all are worried about us here in Florida. It did not drop to freezing where I live, but it was 30 degrees in northern-central Florida, so I know this is big news and the country must be wringing it's collective hands. The news is bad. I know. Parental Discretion is advised...

Quote from the weatherman: "We've got it hard. We've got it rough." The reporter (outside sans hat or gloves) reported that he was "freezing" in that 48 degrees. The words "arctic blast" were in big block letters on the map with the temps.

The schools reported that they were checking heaters to make sure they work. They also brought on extra busses because they thought some might not start in these "bitter" and "frigid" temps. Parents were reminded to bundle up the kids.

People who wanted to watch football outside had to use space heaters.

I, personally, turned on the thing to heat the pool water.

A friend described it as "definite sock weather."

But we are a hardy lot!

We'll be okay!

Don't worry.

Too much.

Thanks.

Anyone want to hit the pitchfork and torch store and storm @luv 's house?

I thought this photo was pretty awesome - it's the south shore of Long Island near the Robert Moses Causeway:
