I just saw this on FB and found it fitting.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
Having her home doesn't bother me in the least. It's just the two of us and I've never been a "I can't wait for you to go back to school" parent.
Oh sure, now I feel like a terrible parent.

My boys genuinely hate each other, fight non-stop, and I count the minutes until one or the other of them leaves the house, even if only for a few hours.

The oldest one technically doesn't live here right now (living with four or five other guys until college starts in September) but he comes home at least one or two nights a week.

If I ever suddenly disappear from these boards, you'll know I had a stroke during one of these visits. One at a time - no problem. Both at home at the same time - shoot me.

I'm starting to get worried. My brother (the one closest in age to me) and I were done hating each other by this age.

I propose a duel. ;)

Some people are nervous nellies.

Not to impugn us gals, but it's usually women who are nervous driving in bad weather.
That's 'cause we're smart.

Yeah, the whole book reminds me of the basic plot of Everyone Loves Raymond. Marie can't let go.

I love my kids with all my heart, but I was one of the few Mom's that wasn't crying at the Kindergarten door on the first day of school, I actually skipped home with rings on my fingers and bells on my toes.

My DS & DD never really fought but they had little in common 5 grades apart.

Yeah, a bit maybe.
The book predates the show by a full decade though.

I married the youngest of seven, and hubby's mom was just glad to hand him off to me, so she could enjoy her retirement.
She was a very hands off, non-interfering MIL, and I miss her dearly.

I might have misted up a bit when the first one started school.
Definitely over it a year later, when the younger one started.

I married the baby too. She was pretty hands off too but incredibly manipulative. I don't miss my MIL 'cause she is still around to torture me.

Mine are 4 years apart. I shed a tear when the older one started school, but jumped for joy when #2 did. Bad mommy....

Ahh we are a lot alike. My DS was dumbfounded when I did't cry when I was leaving to go home after dropping him off at College Dorm. So many blubbering parents. I took same one down to do the college program at Disney when he was 20. Waved bye bye to him as they loaded him on a bus for Casting building and went to play in the parks a few days without seeing him again. He had an adventure to start.

I was wrestling harder with DD going off to college, we are really close and wasn't sure how I was going to adjust. (did fine amazingly) But when we took her out to lunch before we left her at her dorm for her first night she burst into tears (stress and the unknown more than sadness) yeah, then I lost it too. Seeing her tears made me weepie. After that final goodbye in her dorm. I fought tears as I drove my DH and me both home, about 4 hours...20 minutes later I was fine. Darn good thing too because within 30 minutes I was driving through a tornado unbeknownst to me. I had cranked up some Disney tunes and thought it was a bad thunderstorm.

I cried when we brought my daughter to college (DH cried all the way home - 4 1/2 hours! When we dropped DS off we were ready to have our "empty nest". I choked up a little, but it was much easier the second time around.

1400 flights cancelled out of Chicago. My DH should be thankful I booked that hotel room early for him. Not so comfy to sleep in the back seat of a car. We are old. : )

I was ready for my 1st born, DS, to go off to college. A great kid but the world revolved around him, or so he thought. lol

Are you familiar with the story?
It really is sweet, in a vaguely uneasy type of way.

(As an aside - someone, don't know who, purchased 4 copies of the book after the funeral, and had the author personalize and sign one each for me and my 3 brothers. They were delivered anonymously to the four of us.)
I've never heard of it till now.

Robert Munsch is an American-born Canadian children's book author.

Some of his books are classics. The Paper Bag Princess. Stephanie's Ponytail. I Have to Go.

There is likely not a single kindergarten class in this country that doesn't contain every single one of his books.

Certainly his writing was edgier (for a children's author) before he got his bipolar disorder under control.
