Just got the call there's no school Mon-Wed. That puts my daughter's Christmas vacation at 19 days.
There's none here tomorrow, but probably Tuesday as well. The university is still holding classes, though, for winterim students (not me).

"Love You Forever" is a great book, and always made me cry.
It made my mom cry so hard, that she was never once able to finish reading it aloud to my boys.
It was so special to her, that it was read during her eulogy.

All of that aside - it's a little creepy that when the boy became an adult, the mom would drive across down; put a ladder up to his window; sneak in his room; pick him up; and rock him back and forth, back and forth ....

Getting cold here. You can really feel the difference in the house.
It's snowing like crazy here. Big, fat, white flakes. As the temperature rises, the snow will turn into rain (channeling Dan Fogelberg here), then freezing rain, and then ... FLASH FREEZE as temps drop to minus 17 (about 0 to you fahrenheit folks).

It's going to be a nightmare commute in the morning. I'm off for another 12 days, and it's hubby's day off, so we can stay hunkered down at least.

That child's name is Norman Bates.

I've been married several decades but back in the day any of those 'moms' could have been my DH

U of I closed. They are not even plowing. They even shuddered the sports center, that I think is the last thing to get closed down.

Are you familiar with the story?
It really is sweet, in a vaguely uneasy type of way.

(As an aside - someone, don't know who, purchased 4 copies of the book after the funeral, and had the author personalize and sign one each for me and my 3 brothers. They were delivered anonymously to the four of us.)

I can stay in, but my brother and dad both have to work. My brother is driving 30 minutes away, and my dad has to go 1 hour away.

My DH had to go into work this morning. He left at 7am before it got real evil, about 6" of new snow at the time and then still warm about 12 degrees.

He couldn't get home. I made him a hotel reservation and had the shuttle bus from the hotel come and get him.
Wonder if he'll make it home tomorrow? It is suppose to be even colder and more white out conditions.

I don't think we are supposed to get any snow, just a lot of cold. The snow is supposed to stay below us.

Hope all goes well. Hubby has a 75 minute commute each way. Mine is 5-10 minutes less.
We both have new, well maintained cars with snow tires and CAA.

My dad has to stay at a hotel right across from his workplace every now and then. He's taking an overnight bag tomorrow in case he can't get his car started or something. He has one coworker who will sleep in the hotel if there is 1 inch of snow (he's a nervous person, kinda weird, too). One night he didn't want to cross the street in a few inches of snow, so he slept at the office, using a stack of paper as a pillow...

Oh my God, I hate hate hate that book. It reminds me so much of my MIL unwillingness to accept her 3 sons actually grew up. Ahhhhhhh. I wonder what kind of minds are so twisted that they dream up crud like that.

Oh yeah, the book had an untimely demise.

My brother is actually carpooling with someone, and I don't know what her car is like. My dad is either taking our 2012 Chevy Equinox, or his 2002 Chevy Impala, not sure. The Equinox has a remote start, so maybe he'll take that.

Some people are nervous nellies.

Not to impugn us gals, but it's usually women who are nervous driving in bad weather.
That's 'cause we're smart.

What's worst is when people are being a backseat driver when the roads are bad. You're not helping, just making this worse.
