When you drive, what's stopping you?

The last time I drove, I stopped to sleep in the car, and to find out what South of the Border was.

Is there anywhere you have to stop because of tradition, or just because it caught your eye?

And maybe someone can tell me what Cafe Risque is.

Driving down from Atlanta its only about an 8 hour drive so we tend to stop at Chick-fil-a around Gainsville or Ocala, and a gas stop, and bathroom stop or two. I use to drive I-75 in Georgia alot, so I knew where the gas stations that were nicer (read clean bathrooms), and the ones to avoid. As much as I like Cracker Barrel, I want to get on down the road. The trip home is different, we tend to take our time so the vacation lasts just a little longer.

We're driving on our February trip this year too. We used to drive it every summer, but for the past 7 years we've flown in February instead.

Here's hoping the weather cooperates!
That's Awesome! We really love the drive. The kids really make driving down part of the magic.
Have fun:wave:

SO TRUE!

1) I live 10 minutes from a Florida Welcome Station complete with the same 13 foot gator signs. :D

2) I applied for a job at Cafe Risque when I was 17. (Don't ask...:lookaroun )

3) Everyone I know would go to Cracker Barrel at the drop of a hat. Sometimes we will just go there to shop.

Being a redneck is so totally great!

Evidently your feet were just TOO clean for employment in this place! I say this because Cafe Risque is less than 20 miles from our town and gets its share of grief from the locals. I'm thankful you were turned down for whatever reason! :sohappy:

We also have a local Cracker Barrel and S-O often I am tempted to just walk through the dining room there asking, "returning from Disney or heading that way?"

Let's just say the interview process didn't go well! :ROFLOL: :ROFLOL: $1200/week sounds great up to a point.

Did you even know what kind of dancing it was back then? If not, I can just see how the interview went, with a naive 17 year old thinking she's signing up just to do a little dancing, only to be told to take her clothes off so they can see how she looks nekkid. :ROFLOL:

We never stop at Cafe Risque and we never will. But back to the topic of the thread, even though it isn't a must stop, it is, by tradition, a place that we always comment on when we drive by. And I'm thinking that as we're on our way down to WDW for some fun, there's a bunch of people in that building having some fun of their own. :lookaroun

Actually, a really great must-stop for us is Houlihan's on 192 which is on my way home if I take the back-roads and not the turnpike. They have some great margaritas and of course the food is awesome. Sometimes we don't want to eat at the parks if the restaurants there are too busy.

Almost Non-Stop

We leave home by 7am and get gas and Chick-Fil-A around Macon, GA., then another gas stop in Ocala, FL. When the kids were little, the stops were McD's.

ps Watch out in Northern Fl on I75 for "the bear in the air". They will get you by aircraft. (86 ina 70 zone)

I don't know if this is "tradition" necessarily, probably just the way it happens, but I think we almost always stop at the Dooley rest area on I-75.

On a sidenote, I keep forgetting the name of it, and the way I make myself remember is that it has the same name as one of the songs that the Darlin' boys sing on the "Andy Griffith Show".

We made a new tradition the last time we drove and we plan on doing it again...Burger King at the Daytona exit. Just a last stretch of the legs, a cup of coffee and preparing for that EXTREMELY long drive down I4. My husband drives straight thru from NJ to FL...no overnight, no nap. One year we made it in 15 hours. He is still trying to beat the record.
We have no real traditions, because my husband won't stop.:brick:
Wow!! I am impressed. Being from just south of you in Lacey, I don't know anyone who has made it in less than 20 hours. How fast were you guys going? I want directions from you!:animwink: We always fly, but 15 hours I might consider the drive.

We also did it in less than 20 hours but, 15 hours, man you must have been flying!

We drive down from the Jersey Shore area and there are several rules in our car:

!. We stop for Cracker Barrels
2. We go as fast as we can past South of the Border
3. Pedro was a victim of PC idiots.
4. We always stop at the Florida Welcome Center regardless of the time.

We drive from New Orleans and always through the night. I usually have to stop for about 45 min at a rest stop in FL close to the turn south on 75. It is something like 280 miles from the fl line to 75 and i just can't seem to make it W/O a small nap. We always arrive around 6am with all but me well rested.

From the movie "Airplane!"
"I didn't understand a word you just said - not a [single] word."

Edit
I got it. You live 45 minutes away.

We usually stop for gas or Zaxby's. Zaxby's is a chicken joint that serves AWESOME chicken strips. I went through a phase after my dad passed away that I wanted Cracker Barrell anytime we were on the road. Which for a while was every weekend for 3 months. Now we stop in St Augustine at the Beall's outlet. They got a Disney Outlet there. They also have a decent knife store. Well it's okay, not good, not bad. On the other side of the exit is a Prime Outlet and Cracker Barrell. Also the next exit down on 95 there is another strip club/truck stop. It's no Cafe Risque.

Do you know what exit the mall is? I've always looked at the exits and wanted to stop....now that I know a Disney Outlet is there. I'm all about a little stopping.

We normallly will leave after work on a Friday and drive at night and stop off around the SC/GA border and stay. However this year we are staying one night in Daytona Beach. So we will just be doing a straight drive on Saturday. (With a stop at Cracker Barrel of course!):slurp:

Cracker Barrell Rock Hill

I also wanted to say "Hey!" to all that stop off at Cracker Barrell in Rock Hill, every time we go eat we ALWAYS see someone coming or going to Disney. We've talked to several of them and say they stop in this area (just under Charlotte) because it's a half way mark.

Just think of me not being in Disney when you stop to eat!:(

But happy you're in my town:animwink:

The Isle of Capri Casino in Biloxi Mississippi. I'm a firm believer in supporting the tax base of our good neighbors to the east.

Thank you so much for your contribution to our economy's recovery from Katrina. We totally appreciate your support!

Our "must" stop on the way to WDW is at Okahumpka Travel Plaza on the Turnpike to get Starbuck's. We then have to stop at Chik Fil A on 192 before checking into our hotel on property. I like the way I can see a small portion of Animal Kingdom across the trees behind Chik Fil A.
