What's up with Videotaping?

I have no problem being asked/told not to take pictures. However, there is a polite way to do it and a wrong way to do it. At SGE in the pre-show I was YELLED at by a rude, obnoxious CM. I was not using a flash, the lights were on and no announcement had been made saying no photography. I have been on multiple times and seen people taking pictures. My problem is not with being told to stop, it is being yelled at. Be professional and courteous and I have no problem stopping and following the rules. If any of the people that worked for me yelled at a customer like that they would have been sent home for being unprofessional.

I completely agree about LCDs and flashes. I have never done that and would not. I would also not continue after I had been asked to stop.

They asked you not to video tape....what's so difficult about that?

I have heard that the Comedy Club is still getting fine tuned and that's why they won't allow videotaping....though there may be other reasons. I'm sure they use the "safety" angle to make sure that people listen and follow the rule.

Is Laugh Floor a standing dark attraction, the way The Timekeeper was?

If so, they might be saying "For Your Safety" because some people can't even walk and chew gun at the same time, let alone stand and videotape without losing balance, and swing around so they don't miss anything and not bang people in the head with the camera while doing so. Just because we're all technosavvy :) doesn't mean everyone else is, so better to have a blanket No videotaping policy in place.

Heading for the great escape.
I would assume Disney's line of thinking is that the profit of a family actually coming to WDW more often to re-experience attractions than if they had professionally edited videos available at home is greater. Twenty bucks for a DVD that gives away the entire experience versus several thousand dollars to actually come see it is a much different profit margin. They'd have to sell many many millions of them to even make a dent.

It would make little sense for them to, which is why they don't. :)

If you discount the general overview DVDs currently available. Hradly a great advert for a media company:shrug:

And I would have thought that the type of person to invest in a DVD would be a fan, and exactly the type who would repeat visit anyway.

And... and.. while im on about it/them what happened to the unique merchandise in the parks.

But back to the home tapers ....

Nope. It's well lit and with seats. "For your safety" means "this one features a copywritten franchise! "

Why would anyone want to video tape THAT attraction anyway? I mean, its nice and all...but probably not worth the effort. :lookaroun

I respect the rules of no video and flash. But for some reason I had my camera on my lap instead of my bag on POTC and someone behind me took a flash picture. I was so mad because my DH looked at me and told me not to take pictures. No matter what I told him he didn't believe me. I wanted to turn around and make the other guest explain to my DH that it wasn't me. Maybe they should say it in more than just english for the foreign travelers.

Theatre Recordings

OK, just a few points:

1. Do you go into a local theatre and record the movie? Isn't that called bootlegging? I honestly see no difference. Yet, I also don't see the whole point in freaking out about it. Unless you are selling it or distributing it, I would think no big deal.

2. With the cellular cameras getting smaller and better, nothing is going to stop them eventually.

3. Audio is an amazing thing. I suggest binaural recordings. Listen to my binaural audio and you will see the quality that can be achieved:

Why take these shots? Simple, it is history. Who knows, COP could be gone at any time. We get that unpleasant feeling every time we're near it. We always check the line. If it isn't crowded, and we've only seen that once, we get kinda depressed. That is why snapshots of high quality and precision are needed. We have thought about it. THey are protecting that specific attraction more than others, and we can't figure out why.

first you "accuse" of bootlegging .. and then you say preserving attractions is important :veryconfu

Get your 24 bit 96 KHz audio card out, and a set of your best in ear monitors.

never knew there headphones with a digital in :animwink:.. but I guess you mean an D/A converter capable of preserving the 24/96 Quality on the analog out

that is why I mix HQ video and binaural audio on my videos :drevil:

When I was on Jurassic Park at IOA before a cast member came over the loudspeaker.

"Please put your video camera away"
Afew seconds later
"Yes that means you in the third row"

Was well funny.

This reminds me of an intersting comment a CM while in the HoP.
As with the usual pre-ride jargon...please, no flash photography.
During the show, there were several flashes from various areas of the room.
At the end, the CM asked people to exit to the right, and then said:
"and for those of you who aren't bright enough to know what no flash potography means, just follow the crowd".
People laughed and applauded. It was great.

That said, I don't understand the reason for no photography many times, but I do know they don't want it and I abide by their wishes. I just wish others did.

I wish I could be a jackass and come up with witty comments such as that one during my spiels, but you have to be careful what you say because some managers highly discourage it. I used to make people chant "no flash photography" over and over and finally ask everyone at the end in a pep rally type voice "ARE WE GONNA TAKE FLASH PICTURES!?" .... "NOOOOOOO!!!" and they'd all applaud. Of course one my demon managers yelled at me. I also got in trouble for saying "If you don't know how to turn the lighting or flash off of your cameras, then don't even attempt it ;)"

I'm not so much bothered by flash photography as I am by people not moving all the way down in theater attractions.
