I wouldn't consider that unprecedented. When I had my AP to Universal I got two years of their (then top level) AP for 180 dollars. So that was 99 dollars a year with full AP perks (free parking, discounts, special AP previews, etc...).

I'm very very interested and can't wait to see what it is.

It may have been more or less. Memory on details isn't there. Something was $99 but I'm not sure what.

Take it for whats its worth, but i have a really good friend who works out in LA for Universal and he said they will start their Potter blitz soon... Maybe they will be starting it on SB Sunday... Afterall everyone in the world watches the super bowl. She didnt give a lot of info about it...

I heard it's free on your birthday as well as 1 guest. If that's true then... I know where I'm going ...

That would actually be a great way to outdo Disney's promotion...make it free on your birthday + one guest and make it for both of their parks.

 I would honestly crack up if they did that. Especially if they ended it with Nelson from the Simpons going, "Ha,ha!"

The commercial is only airing once because they either a) have a real good deal on their hands and showing it once is going to get them enough people to consider it, b) out of hype, or c) really don't have the liquid cash they used to have and can only afford to air it once during the super bowl.

As for the deal, my predictions are as the others on this forum, free admission just like Disney, but they will probably add to it like bring a friend, or get a free Express pass with your B-day.

Should be very interesting!

^ ^ Nice find!

7 Days at Universal?.... Eh' no thanks.. It's a one day two park deal. The way Universal is making money is considering they are only giving out one ticket to the 100,000 winners, that brings in major bucks for other family members who have to buy tickets...

Cheapens my wife's and my "scouting trip..."

...if I win.

We were semi-planning a brief visit just to check the place out when we fly into Orlando for a short business trip later this month. We wonder whether it's worth bringing the whole clan during a future vacation.

Please notify the board if and when you win so that all of us know when and how we can expect a reply.

Thanks!

I asked about the deal... appearently they are giving out between 100,000 and 300,000 tickets... seems the wording of the rules and the press release contradict each other.. so there is a good chance people will get a ticket when they try to get one.

You apparently didn't read the Orlando Sentinel article. NBC owns Universal, so it didn't cost them a dime to air the commercial.

They gave away 300,000 tickets... Here's the press release...

UNIVERSAL ORLANDO RESORT RUNS SUPER BOWL SUNDAY COMMERCIALS WITH HISTORIC OPPORTUNITY
<!--sizec--><!--/sizec-->

Commercial Runs Three Times and Offers 100,000 Free Tickets Each Time: Tickets Good for One Week’s Admission to Both Universal Orlando Theme Parks

Resort Also Giving Away One Complete Family Vacation Each Day in February

ORLANDO, Fla. (February 1, 2009) – Universal Orlando Resort revealed an unprecedented opportunity on Super Bowl Sunday, running a newly created commercial three times – each time offering 100,000 tickets good for seven days unlimited admission at both its theme parks.

Universal also launched a web-based sweepstakes Sunday that will run for the entire month of February. Each day for a total of 28 days, Universal Orlando Resort will give away a four-day/three-night family vacation that includes theme park admission, airfare and on-site hotel accommodations.

The combined offers – worth more than $35 million – deliver on the commercial’s message: there was a time when all of us felt we could be anyone or do anything – and a place where we still can. That place is Universal Orlando Resort – and it is time for everyone to rediscover those feelings with their families.

The commercial, created by Universal Orlando Resort and David&Goliath, opens with a boy in a home-made cape and super hero costume as he walks through the streets of a crowded city. He shares a series of powerful, stirring, moments with viewers, who soon realize the boy is a metaphor for an aspiration all of us share – the desire to re-discover our own inner hero. The ending message: “Your Inner Hero is Calling. Answer at the One Place You Can Feel Super Human Again: Universal Orlando Resort.”

“We were looking for a way to capture the essence of our theme park experience and quickly realized there was also a higher level of meaning in what we were portraying,” said Kurt Kostur, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Universal Orlando Resort. “We were tapping into an emotion, a feeling, so many of us can identify with.”

Each commercial ended with an opportunity for those watching to go to universalheroes.com and receive one of 100,000 free tickets good for seven days admission to both Universal Orlando Resort theme parks: Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure.

“The Super Bowl is a huge event and we wanted to create an opportunity for viewers that would match it,” Kostur said. “We hope to create enormous excitement with this offer and we look forward to having everyone enjoy themselves in our theme parks.”
