What's Still On and What's Now Off

Not that I want to get into a this vs this type back and forth, but there is other analysis that sees it differently.

Very true that everyone has a slightly different perspective, but it doesn't hurt to try and get the best, sourced opinion. Out of curiosity, because that article didn't make it clear, (maybe @lentesta can clarify), was the data graphed in that article based on all of WDW's guests, or just Touring Plans users and Affiliates? Because, if just based on that group, I have a feeling that you are going to see increased brand loyalty skewing results that would otherwise be more moderate. But, perhaps even bigger is the fact that I believe that everyone that had their vacation cancelled intends to simply push off their vacation. However, whether that will be feasible (travel fears or economically as millions are going without pay) for them to still drop thousands of dollars is yet to be seen.
However, the fact that Disney is already offering substantial discounts to merely incentivize rebooking does not bode well.

But isn't this something Disney has done consistently over the past decade to encourage bookings, especially during times of weak demand? I remember fire sale AP room discounts occurring even during good economic times.

Largest park + lack of CRP's that make the back half of the park closed + probably no fireworks + half of it is under construction + lack of attendance anyways due to construction = The park with the least amount of offerings, ergo the easiest to cut out.

If I'm reading this right, the fireworks are made out of college interns?

Not on this scale, if I recall (admittedly I would have to double check). AP room discounts happen almost all year (I’ve scored an AP rate over Spring Break before). Free Dining though usually is considered to be the “big guns” to pull people in for smaller ranges of targeted date sthat are forecasted to have weaker attendance.

Florida's peak has been updated. Per https://covid19.healthdata.org/projections , It is now the 21st of April. Not sure what this will change in the long run, but it gives me hope!

But that wasn’t Disney’s goal...the “rabid” Star Wars fans who were NOT Disney fans and were supposed to add themselves into the fold never came and won’t.

Its not so much they didn’t come, it’s that they were already there for the most part. I predicted on the DL forum that it wouldn’t be nearly as bad as people thought when everyone was predicting that GE would break Disneyland. I was wondering who all these huge Star Wars fans that were not already a Disneyland fan/ visitor or AP were? Not to mention the fact WDW was getting an exact copy. With that said, I thought the land would have created much more hype than it did the first few months. Looking back now, its hard to differentiate the buzz GE generated to say that of the Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout overlay. All it did was create a little bit of buzz with the APs that were already attending the park’s anyway.

For those saying that we will see sustained high crowds once the parks reopen, I’d like to point you to this wonderful article by @WDWFigment (Tom Bricker):

same stuff been said here for weeks. Many just want to think the light at the far end of the tunnel is utopia.... not the oncoming train.

people who think everything goes to normal like a light switch are putting their heads in the sand.

the one that says "this is unprecedented..." then goes onto use old data from events that dont match this at all... to say how it will be like the last time.

you don't see the flaw in that at all?

There are TONS of people champing at the bit to return on day 1, even if only the outdoor spinners are open.

I’m addicted to Disney like all of us, but I don’t want this to taint my WDW experience, so we booked Vero Beach for 4th of July. We have never been, will get some Disney without having to observe how the parks are different, and honestly, relaxing at a small resort on the water sounds really nice after this. Disney World will be there next year for us.

We'll see what happens. Things will be very different down the line, and I think many won't want to pay for resorts to go to parks open for shorter amount of hours and a lot of restrictions. Maybe I'm wrong though.
