"What's Next?" presentation December 7th

My guess is that it will be something having to do with NextGen. We were just given word that some new things will be popping up on the Disney front desk system screens on our end in conjunction with the NextGen initiative as well as that additional training will be taking place within the coming months. On top of that I know in the hotel world a whole bunch of concierge and front desk positions have opened up for hiring and these we are being told have to do with NextGen and the need for more man power. I don't have specifics on anything (and even if I did I wouldn't be allowed to share) but that is what I'm assuming this is all about. Rumor has it that the real NextGen stuff is going to start happening at the start of 2013.

Maybe they'll announce that they're going back to basics. They'll make the parks cleaner. The staff will be nicer. They'll return all the extra stuff that made the place so wonderful in big and little ways. They'll make the pirates ne'er do well cads again. They'll have a shoot out. The landscaping will be fun and pretty. The Coral Reef and Figment will make appearances. Et cetera, et cetera. That would be fantastic.

Or maybe it will be an Avatar or Cars land. That would be fine.

Or maybe it will be more screens or tech crap. That would be annoying.

Maybe they'll announce that the new Poly time-share will be built. More buildings cluttering up the view around the Seven Seas Lagoon. Ugh.

We will see.

I am going into this post with little knowledge of Carsland fully fleshed out because I have not gone to Disneyland. But I did look at footage on youtube. Personally, I don't want it. It looks to me like Test Track re-themed for kids. And I could be wrong but...

Though there were threads on this forum a long time ago, discussing FLE and other issues, like the Disney princesses and how incorporating maybe more Pirates or having something more interesting to many little boys because I think the opinion was that girls were pretty much covered in MK.

If little guys and girls would love Carsland, so be it. I am not the Grinch. But I think I would like to see something newer, something besides Carsland.

Having ridden it can assure you that it's not.

It's a sorry state of things at WDW today when everyone is so full of pessimism with an auto-immune system for letdown! You would think Snow White had cloned Grumpy and they're all members on this forum! I, for one, though, have been let down over and over again, have also been, on occasion, pleasantly surprised. I, however, do think that there will be a day when I will be pleasantly surprised once more - and, repeatedly pleasantly surprised again and again. Therefore, with the cancellation of Avatarland, there's a half billion dollars available for Disney to built some attraction or attractions with. I am disappointed that such an announcement hasn't been made as of yet, which is why I see this up-coming media event as the company's golden opportunity to do so! If not, yes, I will be very disappointed, but I will hold up hope that it will happen soon - maybe at a media event after this one... Or the one after that! In my mind, it's gonna happen... It's just a little frustrating that so much "time" has to happen between each wait.

You are funny!

Though the fact that none of this will ever happen makes me very sad...

This is my guess too.

I also don't expect the words "avatar" or "pandora" to be uttered.

There's someone who is trying to get more attention (that I won't provide) in the fan community who seems to believe otherwise.

Even is shilling the idea of artwork (only 15 months after announcing the project!) being shown. To that I can only say I have coffee table books (including the new Disney Poster Art one, only a few mistakes/typos thus far and almost through it) with all sorts of concept art that was released to the media of projects that never have existed and never will.

I'd like to make a bold prediction: TDO will announce that due to the overwhelming quality standards, wonderful guest feedback, and constant re-investment in the property, that they'll be increasing park passes yet again due to the aforementioned quality spending. :)

I just want to repeat that the largest increases in WDW admission in the history of the resort are coming in 2013. Want everyone to remember it (barring something like a depression or terrorist act or something of that ilk that affects business in a huge global sense).

In reality, if they could announce that Oriental Land Company would now take over management of the Florida property, it might be the greatest thing to ever happen to WDW....but, that won't ever happen.

Biggest fanboi fantasy ... if Disney couldn't get them in bed with a sweetheart deal for SDL, then they'll never invest in a resort like WDW. If they would have had the slightest interest, then that rocket would have launched a long time ago.

Modern WDW=Timeshare development property that also has theme parks.

Hmm ... where have I heard that before?

Whatever happened to the rumor floating around, mostly on Cirque discussion boards elsewhere on the interwebs, about Mystere taking over for La Nouba?

Rumor had it that Treasure Island was after a new show, given that the first permanent Cirque show was getting long in the tooth (almost 19 years since opening). Any possibility of Mystere moving to Orlando?

I haven't heard a thing about it. And I haven't touched base with anyone from Cirque in a long time ... was supposed to attend the world premiere of Iris in LA, but wound up flying back the night of it.

I love Mystere. It was the first Cirque show I ever saw and it just wowed me. Whether or not Cirque would want to move it and whether Disney would want it are the big questions.

Saw La Nouba for the fourth or fifth time in spring 2011 (after not seeing it in years) and while it still impresses, it has a 1990s vibe about it as well.

If theres money to be made TDO will go after it i am just confused why there haven't been any work to improve a potential goldmine in DTD

Quite simply, the current management team hates expenditures - even if it means increasing profits by ten-fold. I don't think any of them expect to be in there current positions for long, so they don't want anything on the books that won't show a profit IMMEDIATELY.

Something like the major DTD expansion probably wouldn't be profitable for 10-15 years (because of the construction expense). The only way it'll happen is if it's forced on them.

Price increases. On all passes at every level ... some will be VERY ugly.

And I think that's where Disney is going to get themselves into serious trouble unless they have huge discounts on rooms and discount or free dining.

I for one most likely will not set foot in the parks unless the Florida 3-4 day pass is still cheap or I get in free.

Unfortunately exactly what I thought you meant. Makes me glad I'm moving closer to DL... where the massive and ugly price increases will at least give me a much better product.

Said it before and I'll say it again - ill take any price increase that brings quality back and the end of the endless nickel & diming. May also convince some of the Wal-Mart shoppers that enabled the parks to get to this point to stop going...

Well, look at what they've been doing for years -- raising prices consistently/constantly and discounting at the same time. I don't see any difference in business models happening until Bob Iger, Jay Rasulo and Tom Staggs are long gone and a new management team is running the show from Burbank.

I for one most likely will not set foot in the parks unless the Florida 3-4 day pass is still cheap or I get in free.

Here's a tip, and one that rest assured the folks who monitor what I post here at Celebration Place won't like, but make friends with a CM or eight. You'll always have free admission, so you can have your cake without paying Disney for it until they earn your business back. I admit that I often feel like an idiot for paying for an AP when I have friends who will take care of my family and friends anytime I desire. ... I guess that's part of my pixie dust addiction that I haven't been able to drop just yet. But Disney is making me think about it ... very hard.

Oh, and once you have a CM pal(s), dine with them whenever you decide to eat at WDW ... preferably at one of the locations that always offers 40% off at breakfast and lunch.

In other words, do unto Disney as they have been doing unto you through years of stagnation, Walmarting and price increases.

Unfortunately, the Walmart shoppers are paying the price increases too, probably more willingly than you or I... and telling themselves that this is the "high-end family vacation" they've earned, all the while finding the vast cheapness of Disney -- in everything but actual price -- both familiar and comforting.
