What's going on with Epcot Future World?

A wall is now up in front of The Seas for construction to begin on the new FastPass/Handicap entrance. Still don't understand why Nemo needs one.

It definitely doesn't need Fastpass, but can't handicapped guests enter through the main pavilion side?

I was behind a scooter going through the main queue on Sunday... She navigated it decently.. But when she went to get on they redirected the whole group back towards the main entrance side anyway... then the whole ride stopped for about 3 minutes (for them to get on I guess)... seemed like a weird process.. but then when we exited crush, I saw the lineup of scooters on that side and figured out she should have gone that way to begin with.

Nor the others....

This all stinks of someone justifying a budget and a job. Again.

Wow, more wasted money. The current management has an amazing knack for dumping money into unnecessary projects while the essentials suffer. Amazing.

If only. Sadly with the other FP planned the direction this is going is one of lunacy.

FP at Nemo? Geesh, I've been on Nemo about a dozen times, most recently during the height of summer crowds, and I've never waited more than 10 minutes.

My grandma is on oxygen and used a scooter on that trip - she had zero problems navigating the standard queue. What a waste of funds all around!

What a total joke and waste of funds. Martin, this is so symbolic of the deranged management at TDO. My dad has neurological disease and has a customized electronic wheelchair. Guess what? He says that The Seas is a very easy queue to navigate. Go figure. :)

Did they not learn from the HM?

Here's the thing. Fastpass can work at Nemo, Haunted Mansion, Pirates, it's a small world, etc. But there is no need to run it every day. Run it as a seasonal Fastpass like Living with the Land, and for the 10% of the days in the year when it's needed you can turn them on.

Edit: I wonder if this queue itself is going to get an update as well - perhaps NextGen? That would make some sense. I would also guess that more attractions are going to get Fastpass due to xPass coming soon.

I actually understand fast pass for Haunted Mansion, Pirates, and It's small world, but not Nemo. I am saying the because I went to WDW in early December in 2010 and I recalled those attractions crowded. Nemo wasn't unlike the attractions I mentioned if I recalled correctly in terms of being crowded in line. Nemo isn't exactly busy for Labor day either when I do during that time of the year either. When Magic Kingdom is crowded is usually for a lot of rides for wait times.

The thing I think of a long wait with Nemo could be in Christmas week to New Years week if someone can confirm Nemo having more than a 10 minute wait. I also have a difficult time to see Nemo having a somewhat of a long line when Test Track is going to be closed up to September or early October time frame. Soarin's would be more crowded when Test Track is down for refurbishment.

POTC and HM rank as some of the most efficient people eaters on property. No need for FP. Indeed, it'll just make things worse.

By their nature, most Omnimovers don't need and work better without FP. This is just the start of an idiotic idea where once again funds are being misdirected.

Part of me wonders if this is an attempt at a psychological move to get more people to the attraction. Nemo is a fun attraction, but I haven't waited longer than 10 minutes for it since it opened. People usually see FastPass and turn their brain off to say that they need to get one and ride that attraction. I wonder if this is an attempt to bring more people in the door.

the seas was great before nemo. ok, it needed some love, but it didn't need nemo. i was shocked when we went in after the refurb. such a shame. if they'd have just updated it but kept the original theme, it would have been much better.
i guess they just wanted to make use of that omnimover again huh?

On 90% of the days I would agree, but on busy days, most attractions could use Fastpass - it's not 100% necessary, but they can get use out of it.

Nemo put life back in that pavilion. It wasn't the best possibly addition, but I think it was a huge step in the right direction.

As for Nemo Fastpass, I'll tease our recording this week again. Per Jim Hill, this is very likely related to xPass. At Epcot there are really only 2 attractions that regularly need Fastpass (3 if you don't want to wait 20 minutes for Mission: SPACE). To sell people on xPass they need to create value, whether it's real or artificial. More significantly, The Seas with Nemo and Friends lends itself to customization as part of Next Gen with all of the screens in the attraction. If you think about all of this together it makes some sense - it's really to create perceived value when people are paying for xPass at Epcot.

I really wouldn't be surprised to see Fastpass/xPass queues added to more attractions that don't really need it.

Which is exactly why FP should also be taken off Buzz Lightyear. They did it at DL and it runs far more efficiently, with lower wait times, than WDW’s version. Similarly, DCA’s version of the Little Mermaid rarely gets more than a 10-15 minute wait (WDW’s version will have longer waits because of…Fastpass!). Even Toy Story Mania at DCA has bearable 45-60 minute waits at busy times instead of ridiculous 120-150 minute waits at WDW due to the absence of FP. The two resorts could not be further apart in terms of how they operate.

I agree. Maybe we can all reserve our trip on Nemo and Friends 6 months in advance once this wonderful billion dollar investment ("NextGen") is complete. Won't that be great.
