What's going on with Epcot Future World?

UOE is a guilty pleasure for me as well, but you're basically watching a movie. While the Dinosaur portion is well done, I view it is irrelevant to the story.

I would love to see some of the Dinosaur components move over to DAK as part of a new attraction (or a refurbishment to DINOSAUR) and that space used for a new attraction.

If they ever did gut UOE, the hope of mine has been that they would rebuild the Dino section as the Primeval World Diorama for MK's railroad.

I'd be curious to know if the latest proposal by WDI included keeping the current ride setup and dinos or not.

Please no one kill me for saying this. BUT I dont think the UOE is all that bad??? I mean I like Ellen...shes funny. I think they should just make it newer and more updated but still make it fun educational on energy. Because I cant think of many ways to make an attraction about energy that fun? Oh well just my opinion:lookaroun

I'm with you. Ellen is still relevant. Not so sure about Bill Nye, but the attraction isn't terrible. I remember when Ellen's Energy Adventure replaced the original and while it felt like a decent refresh, Tim is right... the dino part was left in because it was interesting, not because it really fit the story. They worked the story to make it kind of work.

The issue with the attraction is the length, not really the content. Theme park audiences have changed. Most don't want a 45 minute movie with a short ride thrown in. I bet if most were surveyed the dino part still polls well.

While you would like to keep the movie portion and move the animatronic dinosaurs, I go the opposite route... keep and expand the dinos. Farewell long Jeopardy story line and movies. Rework Ellen's role to be one of host in the pre-show and post show. I think this could function as a walk through attraction with a great post show about fossil fuels transitioning into renewable energy.

I agree with you. It is a long ride and it takes a chunk out of your time. If they do something to the ride I think it should still be with Ellen. shes too funny. But the dinosaurs part is kind of out of place. what was the old version like?

Even as an 8-year-old, that Radok pre show was amazing. As an adult, I would love to experience and appreciate a piece of art like that in person. Pretty much goes for all of the old EPCOT Center, actually, which is probably why I love World Showcase so much.

I have to agree, the Ellen show is really entertaining, just as the old Robin Williams animation show was. A good performance really does hold up, and it was a good script with some good effects and you leave with a smile.

It also resonates well with people who are not Disney fanatics, you can always tell people going on a trip to see the show, get a spell from the heat, and they will have an enjoyable experience.

It is ironic, however, that people are screaming for years that Disney isn't adding new areas enough and not building new, and now when they announce a ton of new stuff and put money toward it, people only want to complain about maintenance. Maybe I'm imagining it, but TDO actually has been doing a better job this year of balancing and redoing than they have in the recent past.

Far from perfect, but its a start.

It did.

I've said it before, the current attraction is a waste of a great pavilion. Aside from the Diorama you could watch it at any movie theatre.

I agree. I mean their having both a major Test Track and Big Thunder Mountain, as well as various restaurants and shops, as well as Sorcers of the Magic Kingdom. I, like most people, want them to update everything, but I believe we're asking to much. Be grateful for what we do get, not what we don't. Maybe after Fantasyland/ Cars Land the'll decide to update them(hopefully sooner). P.S, this thread has had lots of discussion, but can an insider give us any concrete details on a general timeline on when Future World or Tomorrowland update gets officially announced. Martin or Lee, can you comment. Will it be like 20 or 30 years, 10, 5, 2, 1, or will either of them be rebranded(like Gemini). If so, which one, and when?

Was the previously proposed redo an improvement in your opinion? Was Ellen still in the attraction?

I fully agree, the attraction could be so much more then a late 90's movie.

They should bring Meet the Robinson's & Wall E into future world. Theme the areas around those movies and their characters.

:hurl::hurl::hurl:

I hope you're joking. They've already ruined The Living Seas with a character overlay. Can't the adults have one park? IMO Disney should keep the kiddie garbage at MK, AK and DHS. If there absolutely has to be kiddie stuff, it needs to be limited to traditional EPCOT Center characters like Figment and Dreamfinder.

BTW, they already have (or had for a while) WALL-E merchandise in the gift shop of either Test Track or Mission Space, I can't remember which.

EC definitely doesn't need much more character integration. The current amount should be sufficient for the most adult-focused park at WDW.

The one thing I wouldn't mind is if they imported some of the music from MTR to Future World. While they might want to re-record the music with different artists, some of the stuff fits FW pretty well. Just read the lyrics to "Future Has Arrived" and it sounds like something right out of old school EC songs, especially if it was used during the park opening each morning.

Plus "Little Wonders" would be pretty nice as the post-Illuminations song.

Back on topic, I'm surprised that, if the UOE refurb kept most of the existing attraction in place, that it was not approved. They really don't like to spend money on FW do they?

This guy needs a medal. I hate to say it, but I think they're doing better this year compared to the past. Progress starts with little steps. I wont say I'm pleased with WDW's condition as a whole, (It's very far from what I've come to expect) but as they say, Rome wasn't built in a day, and in this case, Rome cant be rebuilt in a day either. I just sincerely hope the work continues and refurbishments become a reality.
In terms of the complaining, I do it myself. There will always be something to complain about, especially with TDO. It's almost as if I feel like somebody has to be out there complaining, insisting on improvement, or we will just see more cuts of the things we love. (Even if no one in The Walt Disney Company ever actually reads the complaints)

It did.

Although I do quite enjoy this ride, I have to agree. The space could be used in a much better way. AND I really quite like the idea of moving the di(n)orama to be used elsewhere because thats probably my favorite part of the ride.

Disney World consists of four very different theme parks. Magic Kingdom is for the kiddie stuff and the classic attractions we know and love. Epcot is half futuristic and half world showcase(more for adults) Hollywood studios is about movies and ANimal kingdom about animals....I am not happy when I hear people saying we need PIXAR AND CHARACTERS EVERYWHERE! it drives me nuts. Epcot is not supposed to be about the characters at all. and neither is animal kingdom in my opinion. it makes it more cheezy sometimes. Disney hollywood studios is already adding too pixarland so I think they should leave it at that. Idk just my take on it. But epcot should stay as is and if test track EVER turns to a cars ride....I will have lost hope for Future world:shrug:

Energy, you make the world go round!
Please no more Pixar, look I love pixar as much as the next guy, but seriously?:brick: There is too much Pixar attractions already. Take take the Laugh Floor for example: entertaining, fun usually, but not themed to Tomorrowland. Epcot needs to get back to it's roots!

The current UoE is still a guilty pleasure, but I never saw the original (I was 8 when it closed) and would give anything to see it! That and the original JII again.

UoE is a 45 minute movie minus a few minutes of a stroll through some misplaced dinosaurs. As a film itself, UoE is actually entertaining, but as Martin has posted, it's such a waste. Disney is lucky that Ellen is relevant once again, but the film is so dated. Look at the Jeopardy sequences and 90's Ellen among other things.
