What's going on with Epcot Future World?

Just wondering if any of the insiders could shed some light on any details on any future Future World plans. While I find it cool that Test Track gets a refurbishment, I was wondering if there are any in development plans that Imagineering are working on, and maybe a possible time frame(Nice even to know that something would be announced within the next two years). It would be nice to think that the Walt Disney Company does care about making Future World futuristic again. And I won't even ask about Tomorrowland....... Really would like to know that something is going to happen there soon.

Unfortunately, it is not up to Imagineering to make these decisions. They can only design and build (or refurbish) something when they're asked to.

Im sure Imagineering cares and would love to implement new things, but sadly TDO doesnt. Plus the lack of sponsors doesnt help.

Big mistake, i'm not as big of a Disney fanatic as some of you guys(I wish I knew more). I love Disney though, and wish they would update these areas. Hopefully some insiders can give us some information, no matter how small.

It's no big deal. Asking and sharing is how we all learn. Nobody popped out of their momma's belly knowing everything so ask away.

Imagineering loves to design, plus, build, and play without limits. Think of them as an outside contractor who works for Disney parks (even tho it's not entirely like that). Park budgets and prioritized needs will dictate how many beans a park can afford to spend on anything new or renewed. Each project is assigned a set budget. When Imagineering takes on a project they have to stick with that budget. More often than not, a good bit of what is designed never makes it to construction. Money dictates that. This is why the Tokyo parks are so superior in detail. Those parks aren't owned or run by Disney. The budgets are more generous, like design drives the budget instead of the other way around.

WDI have plans (several) for Imagination. And Energy. And Wonders. And SSE. And the central spine z(entrance, tombstones, pin station, canopies)

It's just they aren't allowed to implement them.

I'm interested to know what will become of the tiles themselves. Prob'ly scrap but the optimist in me hopes for a repurposing of the material in some creative way.

I posted a question about this a while back. I was under the impression that the purchase contracts promised that the installment would remain in place until (at a minimum) the year _____ ...?

I believe it was 20 years from the beginning of the program, so either 2019 or 2020 depending on technicalities. However, the contract only states that the tiles have to visible in the park until that time. So they could theoretically move them elsewhere and it would still be ok.

I thought I heard it was for 20 as well.

Yep. This is my understanding. I recently came across the little card with the image they sent you after you purchased the tile.

I wonder if the contract info was in there? Lemme see if I can find it again. It's gotta be near the top of my stack of Disney junk since I found it recently....

**edit**
Nope. No such luck. It's not in there. The original envelope that came in the mail has the nice little folder thing and 2 of what you see above. I guess that's one for each of the boys to keep. LOL!

If you want to see something cool, go to the camera center and ask for the location of your photo (i believe that is the store, it might be gateway gifts on the other side). When you ask for the location it comes up with the actual color photo that was taken the day you went to get your tile. It's even more nostalgic than what is on the slate out in the front of the park.

I have one... They have my permission to move it if I get my fountain and entrance plaza back.
