What free stuff have you ever got at Disney?

My GF says that we are cursed. Of our 5 trips to the World we had only one trip without any problems with the resort of our choice, the WL and CS in 2007. But we learned how to deal with the problem, we know always order in advance a so-called "special cleaned room" when we do our reservations at Disney. We learned about that at the YC.

Actually I am sure you have been cursed. Probably after you turned your back to the cast members. I may be completely out of line as I know mistakes happen but your post does make you sound a bit like a drama queen. And omg! It was 90 minutes for a bus. Guess what, pretty much everyone has had that happen at least once if they go to Disney frequently. It sucks but with the millions of people they move screw ups will happen. Having "major problems" on 4 out of 5 trips would tend to make me think the problem maybe isn't so much with WDW...

Just out of interest does anyone know the policy on cm's giving away 'free stuff'. Reading these great stories of clothes, drinks and ice creams etc being given out I'm assuming cm's must have 'discretion' on this rather than just doing it because they feel like it?

My understanding is that each CM/location has a set value that is supposed to be used for guest recovery/magic moments type stuff. Obviously the CM working the churro cart may have a bit more leeway with giving away a churro than a front desk CM does with upgrading to concierge level. They are expected to use up that entire value, so having a guest that is nice to them, having a rough time etc makes it easier to give something free to.

In 2013 we stayed at the Beach Club but they over booked so they moved us over to the Yacht Club and for the inconvenience we were given a cheese/fruit platter, 6 park tickets with no expiration and they gave us the magicbands to try out during the testing phrase:)

One complimentary night at the Poly because their incredible incompetent mousekeeping needed three tries and three complains (in increasing loudness) to finally get our balcony and window panes cleaned.
One complimentary night at the Pop Century for a dirty and uncleaned room at our arrival.
2 complimentary nights at a resort of our choice because of the worst night ever at a WDW resort (AKL). We took the YC because we were thrilled by our first stay there - Big mistake because during the second stay (the complimentary one, where we originally had planned to stay at least 2 more days) we had such a big problem with finding an acceptable room at the YC on our arrival day, that the shocked housekeeping manager gave us complimentary concierge level.
1 complimentary day ticket for Typhoon Lagoon because the bus service between the CS and TL, where my GF was waiting (I had left TL to get some stuff from our resort, the CS), needed approximately 90 minutes until finally a bus arrived to take us back.
At least a dozen or more special fastpasses (could be used once on any ride at any time) for numerous examples of incompetence of disney resort CMs, especially concerning mistakes by the front desk staff at check-in and the housekeeping.
A complimentary lunch at the AKs Flame Tree BBQ after a rude CM at the Pizzafari.
Perhaps I forgot something, but this should be at least the major stuff.
Oh yes I forgot the "White Chocholate Mickey Mouse" we got as a present from the manager of the YC, which was then stolen! by some maid from mousekeeping out of our room and had to be replaced.
I understand you had some issues, and I'm glad you finally got them fixed, but you have no proof that mousekeeping took the Mickey.

The occasional extra pin from a CM when you are chatting and they give you two instead of one to trade..

A $100 room credit and I wasn't even complaining. I just asked 4 days in a row if they could replace the hair dryer that was broken and when I mentioned it to the concierge they said it was not acceptable and gave me a credit, which covered our tips for the 5 days.

And dream parking at AK when we took the parents in December.

wow.. sounds like the original poster complains a lot for free stuff!

I have been to the World 38 trips and have never had anything stolen or have I cared if there is a smudge on the window! lol Mousekeeping has always been amazing and we always tip them. Heck, I have left money on the table for them and they have never touched it. So I realized I needed to leave a note with it. I have stayed all levels of hotels and receive the same great Disney service over and over again.

In all of my trips, I have only had 2 CM's that were not having a good day... But I know everyone can have a bad day when you are dealing with guests that probably started the tude... lol

I know me either, I have left cash for mousekeeping and forgot to leave a note saying it was for them and they did not touch it.

We have been given...
  • free cupcakes from Flame Tree BBQ because the cashier was from NJ just like us.
  • free mojitos from the Dawa Bar because the bartender was not only from the same part of PA as my friend but it turns out that my friend and her mother were practically neighbors!
  • Free appetizer at Paradiso 37 because it turns out the manager and my fiance went to high school together! (different grades though)
  • stickers
  • champagne and desserts at various restaurants during our anniversary this past May.

Parking, churros, drinks, mickey ice cream bar. Don't even get me started about what you get for free on the 3rd floor of the grand.

I have been to the 3rd floor at the grand :). Was on the top floor once, got a peek into the presidential suite.

I broke my foot the night before getting to the World while on a side trip to Daytona. Called Pop Century front desk and told them what happened and that we would need a handicapped accessible room to accommodate the scooter. When we got there the next morning, not only did we have an accessible room, but it was a connecting room with our original room. Two rooms for one for the duration of our stay.

When we were in Pizzafari this summer, the CM at the counter making our trays asked if the kids liked school. They said yes. She started asking them their favorite subnets and other questions about school. She walked away then returned with these.

Turns out she was an elementary teacher for a local district. Very nice of her I thought.
My favorite subnet is 127.0.0.254.

About three years ago my now wife and I went down a day ahead of my parents who were joining us at the wilderness Lodge (we booked rooms separately).

When we checked in they upgraded us to concierge for free which was awesome. On our way up to our room we were joking about how my parents missed out, and the woman who was escorting us up to our room inquired about what I was talking about. I told her how they were coming the next day and had their own room. She didn't really say anything more but sure enough the next day... They got upgraded as well to the room next to us.

I got a personally autographed photo of Aurora with my name on it once - I'd told the CM I spoke with on the phone she was my favorite princess. I'd sent an e-mail to Disney with some relevant suggestions and believe it or not, they will call you back.

We visit every month or so, have stayed at Value to Deluxe Villas (I'm a DVC member) and we've never experienced anything like this. Yes, we've waited for buses (but never 90 minutes) and staff have always been very nice and helpful. While waiting for our FP for Wishes the other night, I had a lovely conversation with a CM intern (I hope she becomes a permanent CM - she is an absolute gem) and ran into her the next night walking down main street during MNSSHP. She remembered me and thanked ME for talking to her. I gave her a hug and said I hoped to see her when we visit again in October and November.

However, I've experienced guests from hell on a regular basis (which you sound like - another entitled individual).....

Who would have thought a smudged window at Disney World where every little kid that goes near the window will press their hands against the window to look out, and as for the outside of the window, the question is not is it going to rain today but when is it going to rain today so I can't imagine how it could possibly get smudged . I also have stayed at all levels with no problems.

I didn't ask for the tickets for TL, they were handed out to ALL about 20 guests from the CS which had waited for the bus for more than 90 minutes. And the problem IS with WDW, the deteriorating quality of the resorts, especially concerning the cleanliness of the rooms is already notorious, many resort guests have recognized them and decided to not stay on property anymore, only some Disney fanboys still seem to ignore the facts, that Disney charges extraordinary, sometimes outright insane prices for resorts of sometimes less than mediocre quality. If you search pages like Tripadvisor etc. you will find a lot of examples, even die-hard WDW fans often can't ignore this fact any longer. We decided not to stay at a WDW deluxe resort again because of these issues. And I really don't know where I "turned my back to the cast members", In always treat them friendly and with great respect and, yes, you are completely out of line.
