I ran the Publix Georgia Marathon this morning.
We went downtown just after lunch yesterday for packet pickup and since we were staying in Atlanta for the night we took the kids to World of Coke afterward:
I opted to stay downtown not because of our distance to downtown but because I wanted DH and the kids at the finish and it seemed silly to have two cars down there and to have to pay twice the parking fees. Also, we had to sit in over half an hour of traffic backup for the Hot Chocolate in January and I didn't want a repeat of that before such a big race.
This "wheel" as we call it was present at my last half marathon - the Gulf Coast Half in Pensacola, FL last April. They moved it to Atlanta over the summer.
Here's this finish line before the race:
And the starting line from Corral I after we moved up when the wheel chair division was started:
The race was good, but the last several miles were tough - I was prepared for the hills but I ended up walking a tenth of a mile or two at a time around the 23rd, 24th, and 25th mile marks for a total of roughly 0.5 miles. It kills me that I did, but I needed it. I don't know if I was having a hard time at the end because I hadn't run enough the last two weekends, or because I had walked around Atlanta too much the day before.
DH took a picture as I crossed the finish line, I didn't see them off to the side - I was too focused on the finish line:
With the kids after:
I was a bit overdressed because it was forecasted to be low 50s and start raining an hour or two into the race. It never did more than sprinkle and it didn't even do that for long. I was sporting my Team RWB shirt, but it was covered my my raincoat #WearTheEagle.
Here's the bling with the shirt and a nice drawstring bag:
Will I run another one? Most likely, but I'd prefer something a little flatter
