How far is Allamuchy Township for you? I think it is pretty far for us, but I want to do the Shades of Death Half Marathon in October. You run on the infamous Shades of Death Rd. I hear it is pretty hilly, but the medal is a cool Grim Reaper Medal! Warm up for Wine and Dine!

It's a little over an hour north west of us. I bet it's hilly! It could be a nice warm up for the Wine & Dine. I think Chris wants to do Hershey again but we'll see. I'm looking into the Cleveland Rock & Roll 1/2. It's Columbus day weekend. We've been out to Cleveland before and would like to go back sooooo that may just be the extra push we need to get back out there. Again the timing is really good for the Wine & Dine 1/2. It'll all come down to funds :greedy:

Lindsay, are you aware of the sweepstakes right now for a free trip to Iceland for their marathon? Also I've been to Munich during Oktoberfest as part of my honeymoon. That's where the main festivities occur. FUN! (But not really near Berlin)

Jill - good looking out on the sweepstakes, I am already entered but thanks for mentioning it.

I know the Berlin/Oktoberfest thing is a bit of a stretch but I read a few race reports where people were clever enough to link the two together. I mean if you're in Germany why not?

@LindsayLoves - I am set on doing the Midnight Sun Half Marathon in Reykjavik! It starts on the summer solstice at 10 pm while the sun is still up.

That Shades of Death race would be excellent for training for Wine and Dine, not too many options out there to do a nighttime training run/race, and the price is awesome.

I haven't heard of the Midnight Sun Half half but it looks really cool. I know there is one in Anchorage, Alaska that has the exact same premise, on the solstice but during the daytime (not as fun)

I would like to do Hershey again, but I also want to do some races that we haven't done yet. Unfortunately, they all seem to fall at the same time. I think Shades of Death is about the same distance as Hershey for us. For us, it comes down to funds and someone to watch the critters. I hate asking people do watch them twice on dates so close together!

The Shades of Death race is run in the morning. Would be really cool to run it at night, but since it is really rural there, I don't think the streets are lit at all. I can't find anything on the website for this year's date yet though.

Really excited here. The other day I mentioned I was considering doing a sprint triathalon relay this August with my daughter (12) doing the 750m swim, my hubby doing the 13.4 mile bike, and me doing the 5K run, but I wasn't sure my daughter was old enough to qualify. Well I spoke with the race director yesterday and she said that if we got a note from her swim coach saying that she was capable of swimming 750m safely and unassisted, they would let her do it. We won't be qualified for any awards, but who cares? That's not why we're doing it. DD was so excited by the news. Now we just need a Relay Team Name. Our last name is Curtis so I was thinking something like The Curtis _________s. Nothing too lethal sounding (like Curtis Cutthroats) and nothing too lame (like Curtis Critters). Any suggestions?

Today I was reminded why I love to run. I set out to do a simple 7 mile run. After about 2 miles I felt like I was floating through air. The temp was in the high 40s, and there was a lovely breeze. (I wish this weather for Nick at McNaughton this year and for Joel at his ultra.) When I got back to my house I yelled through the mail slot that I'd be another half hour, and I ran about 3 more miles. I still felt like I was flying so I yelled through the mail slot that I'd be yet another half hour. (Didn't want them sending out a search team!) My legs didn't start to tire until 11 miles but at that point I was nearly 2 miles from home, so I had to finish. Wound up completing 13.1 miles in 2:15:23 which is a half marathon PR for me by 1.5 minutes! And that included traffic lights! What a run. There's nothing like that rare and elusive runner's high!

Oh and I haven't run further than 8 miles since Coryna and Kristi and I did the Hershey Half 6 months ago. Amazed that I could do this today!

First official time under one hour. ...... 56:20 today.

Congratulations! You busted that one hour mark!

I ran the Publix Georgia Marathon this morning.

We went downtown just after lunch yesterday for packet pickup and since we were staying in Atlanta for the night we took the kids to World of Coke afterward:

I opted to stay downtown not because of our distance to downtown but because I wanted DH and the kids at the finish and it seemed silly to have two cars down there and to have to pay twice the parking fees. Also, we had to sit in over half an hour of traffic backup for the Hot Chocolate in January and I didn't want a repeat of that before such a big race.

This "wheel" as we call it was present at my last half marathon - the Gulf Coast Half in Pensacola, FL last April. They moved it to Atlanta over the summer.

Here's this finish line before the race:

And the starting line from Corral I after we moved up when the wheel chair division was started:

The race was good, but the last several miles were tough - I was prepared for the hills but I ended up walking a tenth of a mile or two at a time around the 23rd, 24th, and 25th mile marks for a total of roughly 0.5 miles. It kills me that I did, but I needed it. I don't know if I was having a hard time at the end because I hadn't run enough the last two weekends, or because I had walked around Atlanta too much the day before.

DH took a picture as I crossed the finish line, I didn't see them off to the side - I was too focused on the finish line:

With the kids after:

I was a bit overdressed because it was forecasted to be low 50s and start raining an hour or two into the race. It never did more than sprinkle and it didn't even do that for long. I was sporting my Team RWB shirt, but it was covered my my raincoat #WearTheEagle.

Here's the bling with the shirt and a nice drawstring bag:

Will I run another one? Most likely, but I'd prefer something a little flatter :)

I got up an moved for 2 miles this morning, my knee is sore, but I've learned over the past couple weeks that getting it moving helps. I ran a bit, but it was more walking than running, and I know my running was ugly :)

@JillC LI - What a great run! I don't think I have ever had a runner's high LOL. I have had good runs but never one where I felt so great that I could do 5 or 6 miles over what I had planned to do! Maybe someday. I will keep searching for the elusive runner's high!

@bethram - Congratulations on your great marathon finish!

As for me, I did 6 miles yesterday. The bad weather is moving in again for tomorrow. Spring is going to be delayed yet again. More snow.

Sat was 7mi, a 6mi hill routine @8min, then a mile of negative splits on the 1/20 of a mile, basically just keep accelerating the whole time. Followed by bike and core. Sun was 9 mi, 8@8min, last was negative splits on the 1/4 mi. Once again, really trying to work on the mechanics, and I am definitely feeling it in different areas now.

@bethram congratulations! Great race and fun race report. I love the Georgia Peach medal. And nice photo with the kids after the race. You should be proud.

I had to laugh when you said you didn't see your family off to the side at the Finish line. I told my husband and sister to watch for me near the Finish Line of the NYC Marathon. When I got there, I remembered to look for them, and I spotted my sister screaming for me, so I waved to her thinking I was waving to both my sister and husband. Turns out my husband was about 50 feet closer to the Finish Line desparately trying to get my attention before I crossed, but because I thought I'd already waved to him, I never glanced back in that direction. He actually felt bad that I never looked at him when he had worked so hard to get that primo viewing spot, and I felt bad because I had spoken for so long about wanting to see him at the Finish Line. That's the only sad feeling I have about that day. But, it's a minor thing so I don't dwell on it.

@Kristia, as I think back on what I did Saturday, I found one concept particularly interesting. Ordinarily, if I were planning to run 13 miles, I would think carefully about what clothes I wore, how much liquid I had on hand, how many gels to bring for fuel, etc. But on Saturday, because I thought I was only running 7 miles, I didn't plan anything. In fact, I only had 4 oz of gatorade with me for the whole run, and I wasn't wearing my "good socks" or my favorite shorts. Just goes to show me how unimportant some of this stuff is, and I should stop over-planning. LOL. Oh, and because of this unexpectedly easy run, I am contemplating entering a local Half Marathon in 6 weeks just to see if I can PR officially.
