What did you do?

No running for me but taught my first Adult yoga class tonight. Even though my certification is for children's yoga, I was asked to start a class for adults by my daughter's dance instructor. I taught it as a gentle yoga focusing on breathing, stretching and of course relaxation. It went really well and they asked me back for another 6 weeks.:)
Awesome! Congratulations!

I design the artwork etc for the local BUTS group. Here is an event in June that I might just have to do. Race Against the Sun. you have from 8:01pm to 5:38am to beat the sun in a 36 mile slugfest at one of the hardest mtn's in town. 4 loops of 9 miles. Here is the liability claim. You gotta love this description: "By signing up for this event I acknowledge that I may be seen as crazy or sadistic by others. I assume all risks that come with trail running and endurance racing; risks such as injury ranging from blisters to death, and in extreme cases the mental scars left by failure. I take full responsibility for my health and safety while navigating rocks, roots, abandoned mine shafts, coyote packs, rusted out cars, sketchy looking rusted out mining equipment, other crazed runners, and the decadent pancake breakfast at the finish. I know I will likely not finish the race within the time limit but I accept the challenge anyway. "

If I could only get Nick @Donald Duck to come down here and represent by smokin this course compared to McNaughton. Id pay for his entry, lodging and bomber of beer. You only get one of these tshirts if you finish.

Here is the artwork:

Squeezed in 3 miles this morning. Used the incline on my TM for the first time in awhile. Usually I work on speed, but I figured I'd mix it up and do hills instead.

Cool race Joel.

Congrats Coryna on your yoga class success.

Way to kill it as always, Nick.

Good luck in your first RWB race Beth.

Day 2 of couch to 5k. Almost died. Joking. Kinda.

I'm a dance teacher! I'm not supposed to be this outta shape!

I took multiple dance classes and did gymnastics in high school, but I could barely run The Mile in gym class. Running is different ftom dance. And you can be strong and flexible with great balance but struggle running if you're not used to it. Stick with it! It gets easier.

8 miles this morning. Started out into a biting wind that made tears flow from my eyes, but got better when I changed directions.

I find it odd that I get a bit slower over the winter months. I would think I'd get faster out of the heat, but I get slower, even with the same types of workouts I do in the summer. Does this happen to anyone else too?

Ran 2:30.37 in the Germantown Half Sunday morning, very hilly suburb east of Memphis. Temps were in the low 60s, overcast with spits of rain and there was a coolness to the air (as temps are falling through the day Sunday and Memphis could get some flurries as a cold front passes through). Pretty much soaked by the end of the run, and that included my cap and cotton gloves. Didn't get a good night's sleep and hardly really trained for this half. A 5K here, 3.85 miles there; nothing over 4.5 miles in training since my last half marathon.

Just wanted to finish, and I did. Didn't care about my time and finished around the same time as my 2013 Disneyland Half and Wine and Dine half times (2:30-ish). Also had two blisters on my ankles (healing) from an earlier week incident of my combat boots grating on my heels, but had new skin and two big band aids.

My sixth half marathon since January 2013 in the books.

Yesterday Dan and I ran the Bordentown Shamrock 5k. We both did pretty well. I beat my previous time by 14 seconds and finished with a 30:48. I was happy to be able to keep an under 10 min mile pace. I had forgotten my Garmin watch so it was really tough psychologically to know if I was keeping a good pace or not. It is a fairly small race so they have the miles marked but no clocks on the course. It may have worked in my favor this time!

Sat did 5mi of hill work on the TM, followed by 6mi on the bike, and hips/core work. Sun was 7mi@8 on TM, 8mi on the bike, and then more hips/core. Knee has been acting up in strange ways, IE hurting randomly in random places, sitting/running/driving, no real rhyme or reason. So trying different things to mix it up. Sun focused on trying to rebuild my mechanics some. (Thank goodness for those mirrors in the gym) Realized how different my stride was than I thought it was when I really focused on it.

That's great Kristi! I bet you could totally break that 5K 30 minute marker with a little bit of speed work. I remember wanting to do that so badly several years ago. And I did! I can give you some treadmill speed workouts that are only 3-4 miles so they're quite doable if you're interested sometime.

Needless to say, Lake Martin is hard to get flat ground to get a solid pace going. This is topo for 1 loop. From last year, its alllll coming back to me now.

Thanks that would be great! I haven't done too much speedwork although that was my original plan for this winter before the actual winter from HELL started! I occasionally use the telephone poles as markers and try to run X amount of poles at a fast pace and then 1 pole at a slower rest pace. I had one 5k where I was able to break 30 min last year. Hopefully once I loose my winter hibernation 5+ pounds, I will be back on track! It would be great to see your speed work though. I don't have a treadmill so I would have to adapt it for outside running. We were thinking of starting to workout once a week at a nearby track.
