What causes a thread to be "special"

I have run into a couple of threads over the past few weeks that I have been told I do not have authorization to be part of. What causes these threads to be any different from any other? Is it the content? The latest was titled "A disgusting failure in "show"".

That thread turned into a flame fest, so it was deleted, thats when it becomes "special".

I've noticed on this particular board you find a ton of 'flame fests' and bashing. You rarely find this in the Dining or Vacation Planning boards. Wonder why this is...

ANy thread that is remotely controversial (scooters, strollers, complaints, etc.) very quickly veer off path and turn into a war of 3 sides. Those on the pro and those on the con and those just standing back a safe distance and pouring gasoline on everything. Nothing coms of this...especially on the internet where we can all say exactly how we feel and it won't matter one bit.

Or any thread with Jimmy Thick.....for some reason.

Is this one starting to veer off?

I tried to respond to a good-bye post, posted by the OP responsible for the "Too Much Alcohol In The Parks?" poster. Wasn't going to flame or anything; got the same response as you.

It was my first time getting the "No Authorization" warning, so it was a surprise, especially since I did not think that I had done anything to offend anyone, other than tell some pretty bad jokes. Didn't understand until I saw how quickly the thread in question vanished into the ether.

That guy had a good bye post?! His original work was epic. We did a good job on that thing.

It was on, VERY briefly. He said he wouldn't be posting again and quoted a lot of scripture to tell people why everyone (including himself) is evil and should follow his spiritul path. Really not any better than the Alcohol thread.

There were a few responses, but the thread got phasered out of existence before too many could light their torches. (It was almost too bad; that particular afternoon was a slow one at work, and the earlier thread made for an interesting day.)

When you get the "not authorized" notice it's because you found the thread but before you clicked or posted to it it was removed because of someone else's or multiple others' posts caused some concern.

Thank you for the explanations. I was wondering since it has only happened to me a few times and there have definitely been some "flame-fests" on here before.
