West Side Parking Garage construction

5000 cars! Wow. Looks great but still trying to figure out the monolith. I am sure someone will mention monorail footer. :cautious:

This picture shows a structure of some sort off the corner of the garage around where that "monolith" is. I wonder if the monolith is a stair or elevator tower, although it looks a little small to be either of those.

Question; since this concerns the parking garage construction progress. Do we have or know of a tenetive opening date for the first garage ? My parents wish to know due to our trip in planning for late August/early Sept this fall.

I don't see any way it will not be open by then.

That's only a little over a month away. There's no way it is going to be open that soon.

Wasn't the rumor they wanted this open before Christmas? Based on today's update, that seems more likely.

Unfortunate typo on my part, the "not" wasn't supposed to be in there. I agree that is to soon, closer to the end of the year much more likely.

Well that garage certainly makes a statement. Welcome of Urban America. Necessary but what an initial eye impact. On my latest trip this is the quad our DME entered the property first, initial drop at Saratoga then Key and PO resorts, no arch for us. It will create a different welcome.

My hope is it will have a 'Smart Parking' system. Indicator of spaces per level as guests enter, then each spot having a light indicator, green for available, red filled, blue special needs available. There is a smart garage near Ohare at the new upscale Outlet Parking Garage. Takes much of the frustration out of locating parking.

From the concept art that was shown it appears that the structure will be aesthetically pleasing as well as functional. I am really looking forward to these structure's completion. Actually, I am looking forward more to the completion of the entire Disney Springs. We have had construction going on there for so long now that I am having a hard time remembering what it was like without it. :(

I would LOVE to have a smart parking system. It would save time for so many people and it would reduce the amount of traffic in the structures. It would be amazing to be able to see at a glance if there were spots available. However, something inside me thinks that they are going to go cheaper on this and we will not see this sort of technology in the garages. :(

If I had to guess I would say some sort of awning/canopy. It would be good to be able to get into the AMC through a covered walkway from the garage. Great for business to if people knew they would not have to deal with rain.

To the contrary I think the new garages will be much more aesthetically pleasing than the previous 'sea of cars' and police observation towers. But more importantly, it appears to me the garages will not be visible from inside Disney Springs. Except perhaps in certain instances. And even those could be themed if too visually intrusive.

Looks to me like the Disney Springs venues will be quite immersive. Especially the new areas in and around the former PI.

The model of the second garage seems to show a walkway from the 2nd and above levels of the garage over the road to the shops. Maybe they are doing the same thing with this garage but it's just not shown in the model.

So you think that the same sea of cars stacked on top of each other in a dark, twisting, labyrinth filled with potential criminal hiding spots is a better and safer environment?

Just want to make sure I understand your concerns on the aesthetics of police observation towers.

It won't be as hot...unless you get stuck on the top level;).

On the guide board by Cirque du Soleil had an "Early 2015" sticker.

Yes. If these are constructed with the same plans as seen in the concept art then they are going to be amazing to see. I'd rather look at these than a sea of cars with ticked off guests trying to outwit each other for a parking spot. And IF they are completed with the smart parking system then they are going to save a bunch of time. You make it seem like they are tossing up some feeble girders and concrete to pile cars into that will give a safe haven to rapists and muggers.

Once again you are reading stuff into my post which is certainly not there. And this isn't the first time either that you have attacked me.

I suggest you reread my post.

I was questioning his opinion on the police observation tower. Get a grip.

I don't find any parking garages aesthetically pleasing, not my taste, to each there own.

But your post gave me a good giggle. "the garages will not be visible from inside Disney Springs. Except perhaps in certain instances." Oy. They will not be visible except when they are visible. :cyclops:

Uh, get control man. That's amazing. No one was attacking you. And this is not the first time you have accused someone of attacking you when they haven't. Wow. I suppose it is against your nature to allow someone to express their opinions. Because that was all it was. My opinion. I actually had to do a double take when I read your post. I was in no way attacking you, but you go ahead and think what you will.
