West Side Parking Garage construction

i figured out the question about why the middle is built last, or least part of the answer.

its really super simple when you see the whole picture.

it has to do with the tower cranes, as the way things are current going the two end sections cranes swing fully above the middle sections crane.

if they tried to build all the section equally the tower cranes would be unable to have full range of movement and would be a mega mega hazard.

i'll post a pic later.

Any idea when they will start construction on garage #2?
is garage 2 being built by the same companies as garage 1?
After garage one is done and open. Garage one should be done or at least usable by December. I've heard jan/feb of 2015 will be the start time for the second garage.

seems logical as it takes a little while to wide down a project completely and they would want to try to limit disruptions for the holidays as much as possible.

It would be nice if they were both complete by the time we get there in October 2015.

Parking won't be an issue once the first garage opens because Disney Springs will open in phases and should be able to handle the crowds in the interim. Second phase garage will be needed by end of next year though. Because Star Wars and everything else.

IMO.

It shouldn't be an issue, but people are lazy. I watched hundreds of cars pull into the already full marketplace lot 2 weeks ago. Large signs on the approach to DTD stated that the lot was full and to use the CM overflow lot behind the gas station. People still waited 20 minutes to a half hour on the hopes that they would get a spot anyway. We parked in the overflow lot, crossed the highway and were on our way in and I could see cars that we were originally behind still 15 or 20 cars from the light trying to turn right into the lot.

If most people are going to marketplace side of DTD are they going to be interested in parking in the West Side garage? Maybe they will run some parking trams or something. People are lazy. It's amazing that they will walk 57 miles all over the MK but won't walk an extra hundred yards to park at DTD.

Or maybe they could take the boat from West Side to marketplace.

As for being lazy, I don't think that has a whole lot to do with it. There were parking lots that said full and had cones in front of them on our last trip, but when people pulled in there were at least 10 to 15 spots per parking lot open. The CMs don't pull some of them when a spot opens up ans they just leave them.

I don't know if it's lazy or just plain stupid. There was a line of cars (maybe 25 long) in the right turn lane. When the light changed nobody moved because the cars at the front had nowhere to go. The signs said the lot was full and to make a left to the overflow lot. If you actually followed that you would be parked and shopping or dining while people in the turn lane were still waiting. I assume people either can't read or thought they could beat the system by turning into a lot and getting a spot anyway.

I'm not disputing that it was laziness. I just want everyone to understand that's not the only reason that ever happens. As I said, during our last trip CMs were not opening the lots for cars when they knew full well that there were spots available in the lots. They left the signs up saying "lot full" when there was obviously spots available. I even ran over a cone to get into a parking lot to take a spot I could see available from the street. When we pulled in the lot I lost count of how many open spots there were, but the signs were still told everybody to turn left to go down toward Westside. However, I have no doubt that those lots were truly full during this time of the year.

I just realized that my post may have sounded like I was arguing. I wasn't. :D Just pointing out another reason that people turn where they are told not to turn. I totally see your point, and agree. ;)

FWIW, this very thing happened to us the first week of June. We went to DTD on our way out of WDW, and we drove around trying to figure out where to park, and ended up following the signs for valet because DH was hoping to find something near there (he wouldn't listen to me when I told him that I had read tips on here about parking across the street... sigh). We got to the self-parking lot that is literally right in front of the Marketplace, complete with the "lot full" sign, and DH turned in there anyway... lo and behold, there must have been about ten empty spots right there in front of us, and plenty more were visible down further. We ended up parking about 20 feet from the edge of the parking lot. In a "full" lot.

Which is why so many people turn into lots displaying "LOT FULL" signs. Once they put that up that sign, seems like they never turn it off even though spaces have become available. So we all take a chance and hope to get lucky!
