You know alot of people get down around here on Opening Attractions facing issues, delays, and technical problems. As I was wandering the internet, I found a picture on the ever-amazing photo collection over at Daveland ( http://www.davelandweb.com/disneyland/ Seriously, go spend hours over here!)

And I came across a picture (In the finest Vintage Submarine Voyage visual record ever assembled: http://davelandweb.com/sub/ ) from the summer of 1959, when two would-be-classic attractions debuted to record crowds. Let's take off the rose-colored glasses of time for a moment, and take a look at this scene in Theme Park Past...

First of all, you'll notice the crowds gathered to partake in the new attractions.

Second, notice the stalled empty Monorail waiting above, and the Maintenance man working under the hood.

And next notice...Is that...Is that a Man standing on the back of that Submarine?

I hope you've enjoyed this look at how the more things change at Disney, the more they stay the same. Opening attractions are never easy! I've been EpcotServo, reporting on the Lighter Side.

LOL. I've seen that pic before and noticed none of those things. I did notice the monorail looks like a tin can though

Oh wow. that is amazing observance. Until you pointed it out I did not even saw those small details that were probably causing huge headaches.

Also thanks for the link.

Good find, Servo.

Matter o' fact, let's not forget what an absolute fiasco the opening of Disneyland was in the first place.

Same for EPCOT Center when it opened... not nearly as chaotic as DL, but plenty of attractions kept going 101 throughout the day.

Yep. I remember going back to UOE three times in one day because it was down. When we finally got on it we got stuck for fifteen minutes.

my first thought of this was "look how much is going on in this pic". It includes traveling by land, air and sea! With the monorail, skyway, and subs all seem to be crossing in the same area.

Great pic and post.

Not to mention that Horizons was still behind walls, and JII was J- less.
