How big of a storm surge is dangerous for the Keys?
I have no idea. 🙁
I really wish the BB’s had left.
Just saw the water is already over the sea wall in Key West. You made the right call in leaving!

My parents were saying that FL has been experiencing above average high tides. If I heard my father correctly, it's attributed to something lunar. As a result, high tides could add an extra 1-2' to surge beyond normal high tides. If you don't already follow Mike's Weather Page (spaghetti models), it's a good site to stay on top of things. He has a Facebook page that's also often very helpful. Surge is the most dangerous thing in a landfalling storm, so definitely good to leave.

Thank you. Someone at the Keys resort turned us on to Mike’s Weather Page. I’ve been glued to his site and FB page for days.

I was curious so I went and checked the webcams. People still out and about at Sloppy Joe's (no surprise). People still taking photos with the crashing waves coming over the wall at the 'southernmost point' (no surprise). Some cars driving on the harbor webcam (shipwreck museum's camera) but the streets are flooded.
So not so bad you can't drive a car or walk around yet. Just several inches of water for several meters at the shoreline and slightly flooded streets.

ETA - harbor cam link:

Our friends went yesterday. She said it was weird and eerie.

Oh - I hope that didn't sound judgmental - I think of the Keys like I think of New Orleans - sort of an easy going, "let's see what you've got Ian", and "I've been around the block a few times" kind of people when it comes to hurricanes! ;) I don't think it's sillyness - I think it's just sort of a life attitude for those residents if that makes sense??

I'm with you, I'd never go out in a hurricane. I'd be home with my family and my animals (and my generator, bottled water and flashlight!) but I also can appreciate that there are people out there who take life as it comes so to speak!

Didn’t sound judgemental at all!
I’m just a chicken-ship. 😂

Hope you "weather the storm" with ease (pun intended). Stay safe.

and to answer your earlier question, cruise was fun as always, but no trip report--didnt even take many pictures, just soaked in the vacay.

I mean, no trip report is better than half a trip report, right? Or do I have that backwards? 🤔

Some was used for caponata, some will be used for rice and beans tomorrow, a couple will go on grilled cheese, a couple will get put aside for salads and the rest will get canned whole. These are really good tomatoes so sorry but yes raw in salad and maybe a few will get used in smoothies.
I just Googled caponata. The only vegetable I won’t eat in any form whatsoever is eggplant.

I do not like the aubergine.
