Sorry to read the post about your cake experience. After reading through this thread I was expecting a lot and I'm disappointed for you in how things turned out. So, I was hoping for your opinion on an approximate cost of a cake posted earlier in the thread. I've attached a copy of the pic. My husband and I are celebrating our 15th anniversary in February and will be dining at California Grill to celebrate. I'm hoping this would be available there. Thanks in advance for thoughts. Thanks- I had pretty high hopes as well considering the great cakes we've had in the past. The Up themed cake was done by the YC/BC bakery. The poster said the cake was $171, which included the room delivery charge. I'd include a copy of the pic when you email the Contemporary bakery and go from there...hopefully they'll be able to fully accommodate the request :)

@HouCuseChickie thanks so much. I apologize I missed the info on the price. I was excitedly savings pics I liked and overlooked that. Wow. $171! I may need to tweak it a bit. Maybe just the standup with a few balloons. Hmm. I have time to figure it out. Thanks again. Can't wait to see your Grumpy sketch. I love the cake with the dwarves and the light up mine car. So cute. I enjoy the thread.

This is the cake @Jessica Meier had made by the Contemporary bakery last month for her daughter...

I think it was right around/just a hair under $80.

The Contemporary bakery does seem to have the lowest prices of the bunch + that $171 includes the delivery fee- which wouldn't be an issue if you have it delivered to a restaurant. You'd still need to consider tax/gratuity though. I think a big tipping point in the price is the Grape Soda badge. The person who ordered this cake was told they didn't do them, but it magically showed up on the cake...which likely boosted the price. Still, it can't hurt to see what kind of quote you get for the full idea and then see how they can modify the price in design modification.

Thanks Coach!!! :)

No problem. I kept forgetting to post it since we have been back. It was great.

Even though we got it at GF again, it was not with Pat. Pat was out with an emergency. The cake was every bit of the size we usually pay 150-200 for. When they called back and said they could do what we wanted for 130 we were very pleased! Then when we saw the cake, it was even better then we had expected. And I love being able to get the TIW discount!

Hope you have better luck with your next cake in WDW!!!

@HouCuseChickie .... Hey girl!

Oh my but your Donald cake did turn out a hot mess. Yikes. It looks sorta somewhat similar to your sketch but then again not really. Okay well Donald was there. :cautious: I feel ya. When they start throwing the random elements in like an attempt at interpreting a design it turns out looking like a mish-mash of stuff that lacks cohesion. Remember this hot mess????

That was a Steamboat Willie themed cake ordered from The Contemporary. In fact, I conversed with CakeMan Brian on that one. Granted, I didn't provide any sketches and placed my faith completely in his capable hands by stating "Artist's Choice". Somehow, I don't think CakeMan Brian did our cake. ;) I think I could've been okay with our Steamboat Willie Fail if it'd tasted good. I think it may have been a previously frozen cake that got a few decorations stuck on to eek by as "themed". I can look back and laugh now but at the time I was pretty livid.

Just browsed the last few pages of cakes. How's the taste/quality holding up nowadays? Still moist and somewhat enjoyable? Are they still using traditional buttercream vs. American slap-ya-momma-yummy buttercream?

I don't think he did that- doesn't look like his piping at all.

Ah yes, the Steamboat Willie cake disaster. Between your bad cake experience and my bad cake experience, I'm at a loss for how to improve the odds of getting a decent cake. You gave them carte blanche on your cake and you wound up with something totally uninspired. I gave them detailed instructions + a sketch and still wound up with randomness. I'm pretty sure Chef Brian had done our previous cakes, but since he's moved on to another area, I don't know if it was Chef Donald (handled all of our communications) or a different chef (I believe someone named Heather may have been handling some of the cakes around this time) is to blame for this ugliness. Either way, it was an epic fail for me. I thought it may have been the emotions from the car accident that happened on our departure day of the trip...i.e. maybe I was blowing the cake issues out of proportion, but it's nearly 2 months later and I still think it's awful.

I didn't really like either of the cakes from a taste/texture perspective this time. It didn't help that they gave me a vanilla/yellow cake when I specifically asked for orange. Still- the cake was dry and bland. I'm also pretty sure it's the same buttercream as before.

In the end, I think the best course of action (at least for us) is to call it quits with WDW bakery cakes for a while.

Quick question! We are coming down soon and staying at OKW. We will be there for DH bday and I want to have a Pirates of the Caribbean cake made for him. We are staying at OKW. My question is if I can have a cake delivered to Raglan Road for his bday dinner or will it be easier to have it delivered to our room and waiting for us when we get back from DTD?

Unfortunately, none of the Disney bakeries will deliver to the DTD restaurants, so having a cake delivered to your room is going to be your only option in your situation. OKW is at least serviced by the BW bakery, so you should have plenty of cake design options when ordering a cake to be delivered to your room.

YC/BC makes custom cakes as well as Boardwalk bakery. Unless you have dining plans at BW where you'd be adding a cake, going with the YC/BC bakery is likely the easiest plan. As for frozen cakes...while I've always double/triple confirmed with each of my cake orders that I'm getting a freshly baked cake, I can also tell you that you'll improve your odds of getting fresh cake if you ask for something highly customized. Going for the less common flavor options really helps, but really anything where you're getting fondant or looking for a smoothed buttercream texture "should" result in you getting a fresh cake.

We actually have reservations at the Beach Club the night I want to have the cake. And I was hoping to get red velvet. I guess I need to call then just to see what flavor cake, frosting, filling options. TY
