WDWMAGIC Takes the Cake - The Official Cake Talk

Wishes will likely be at 8pm. Another mini-wedding cake or even just a cute mini cake might be best as 'Ohana is a lot of food. Alternately, the cake could be boxed after the meal. A good friend of mine got her daughter's sweet 16 cake at 'Ohana- they didn't eat a bite- so they drove home with it the next day.
Just wanted to ask a couple more questions. I've gone through all pages of this thread this evening looking at cake ideas and came upon a post about delivery to POFQ/PORS from Boardwalk. Do you know if that is still available? It was posted back in August. Also, the chocolate covered strawberries and Mickey on one of the earlier pages is really cute. How would I reference that in a call to the bakery? Thanks!

Very true =)
I'm asking because I've never had a zebra dome and being how they have quite a following I should try one.
Anyways, my sister and I will both be celebrating our birthdays our next vacation this June and since we absolutely love frozen we were thinking about maybe getting a cake with the sisters and olaf...I'm not sure yet

While they are on the Boma dinner buffet nightly, they are usually offered at AKL's quick service (the Mara) during lunch and dinner hours. If you happen to be popping over to AKL, it could be the cheaper way to experience zebra domes. I don't think they decorate the zebra dome cakes in anything but the traditional chocolate zebra stripe, so picking up standard sized zebra domes at the Mara might be the best course of action if you'd like to get a cake with a Frozen theme.

Essentially, if you want your cake (or bakery item) delivered to your resort, you order your cake through the hotline for the Port Orleans resorts @ 407-934-5822. The cake order is fulfilled by the Boardwalk Bakery, so while you'll be dealing directly with the hotline for the Port Orleans resorts...your options are based on the Boardwalk Bakery options.

As for how to ask for what you want you could...
a. tell them you're looking for just the white chocolate Mickey topper served with a presentation of tuxedo strawberries.
b. see if they can accept an email with a jpeg attachment with a picture...or even a fax of the picture.

While Contemporary is the only bakery that lists an email address, I know some of the other bakeries will agree to take emails or faxes. It's just a matter of getting them on the phone. I know I've done this with the GF Bakery.

A small cake update for everyone...

First up ... a cake comparison. The following cakes are both Haunted Mansion cakes produced by the Contemporary bakery. The first two are from the current team and the second is from Chef Brian prior to him moving from the team.

HMGroomsCake2.jpg

The cakes were posted merely to show the styling differences between chefs, but I'm a little confused with the wallpaper element on the first cake from the current team. While it bothers me that you can see the seams for the edible wallpaper...I'm kind of bothered with the random lumpy look it appears to have in the first pic. Part of me wonders if it was intentional, but if it was...why? I mean, I've ridden HM enough times...maybe I'm just not remember an element?

Next up...a Goofy Cake...

$140 made by the Contemporary

Now this is a first...a cake after the La Luna short...

$75 from the AKL bakery

Merida cake...

Now to try and decide if I'm going to make a cake for this weekend...and if so, what to make???? Decisions- Decisions.

Hi @HouCuseChickie , the HM cake above with the portrait, do you think it would be possible to have a photo of a particular couple added instead of the stock photo (I'm assuming that's what that is shown)? I thought it would be fun to "age" one of my wedding photos and send it in to use for that cake. Just wondering if you've had any experience with trying to send photos and if that causes greater expense. Thanks!

There are a handful of HM cakes on pg 1 of the thread (just takes a bit for them all to load). I've noticed variances in the portrait on a few of the cakes that used that element. I don't know for certain if that variation means that they've used a pic of the actual couple vs. a stock photo, but it would be the best explanation for the differences. Obviously, you'd have to ask if the bakery can use your personal photo and if you could send it to them as a jpeg file. As for extra cost...possibly...since they may have to format the photo to fit the frame and load it into their systems. Still, I can't see there being a huge fee for that.

A small update...I saw on another site where they posted some examples of the current version of the Cinderella 3D white chocolate topper painted...

I also wanted to share the cake I made last week. It's a non-Disney cake with a Disney joke.

And the kids wanting to eat 'The Butt.'

It was a cake for my dad. He loves boats and fishing, so I got the idea to add some Finding Nemo related humor to the cake and name the boat THE BUTT. Thankfully, my dad's seen the movie several times and really appreciated the joke. The boat turned out more like the S.S. Minnow meets a tug boat and the details are a bit rough as I was really pressed for time, but I'd still classify it as a success. The cake is a nut-free carrot cake with dulce de leche/Cinnabon frosting filling and covered in cream cheese buttercream (before adding all of the fondant).

Ok, I need some help. My mom is celebrating a personal accomplishment and her favorites are Tinkerbell and Dumbo. Any cakes that you can think of with those characters on it?

Tinkerbell is definitely the more popular of the two as far as cake themes go. There are two sizes of white chocolate 3D Tinkerbells, there are probably tons of 2D edible image options, and I know they even have a Tinkerbell stamp...kind of like the Mickey & Donald stamp you sometimes see on some of the wedding cakes.

There is a whole section on pg 1 that has a bunch of Tinkerbell options, but it's probably easier for me to just copy some of my faves or best examples over here...

(this is the mini 3D tink)

Sadly, this pic cuts off and you can't see all of the details, but the cake design is from one of the standard wedding cake designs...just 1 tier vs. 3-5.

They could also likely incorporate this wedding cake concept into a special occasion cake...

Here's a 2D example

And an edible image laying flat on the cake...

I also noted the stamp option...I found one cake in my photos that has the Tink stamp...it's mixed in with the Mickey stamps on the cake below...

The cake above is a Mickey wave style cake...and obviously, they could do the wave in all Tink if you'd like. There's also the "delight" style...normally done with Mickey, but also nicely illustrated with the Donald cake below. I'm having trouble adding more images to this post...so look for my next reply for the continuation.

OK- part 2...this is the Donald version of the "delight" style and could also be done with the Tink stamp.

As for Dumbo, this is the only Dumbo cake I've seen come up...

The cake is pretty generic, but if it's an accomplishment you're celebrating, incorporating a ladder (or a few) might work in nicely with a Dumbo theme...i.e. works with the movie and would work well for "climbing the ladder to success."

Hope this helps :)

It's mom's birthday on our next trip in March. We already have dessert one the meal plan but want something special for her. I was looking at the mini cakes just something elegant with a little Mickey flare. Which bakery do you think is best Grand Floridian (we are staying here) or contemporary ? What would be the price range for something simple?

Most of the mini cakes and mini wedding cakes start around $35 and max out around $65.

Something like this mini wedding cake would likely go for around $35.

Probably the same $35 price point for this mini cake with the mini castle...
minicake10.jpg

Now, these are more basic mini cakes...but I've seen other colors, elements, and piping added to make it a bit more unique and still stay in this range.

As soon as you add fondant, you're going to see the price rise to the $50 mark or above.

As for the GF vs. the Contemporary...there are pros and cons to both, but ultimately both are usually decent. They supposedly all use the same recipes/ingredients for their cakes- so in theory- it should all taste the same no matter which WDW bakery you use. I could give you a long list of my pros and cons for each, but my best advice (since both have wowed people and disappointed people) is to go with the one that works best for you and your plans for your mom.
