News WDW Resorts to add fees for parking

I did point out they can stop you parking at a resort you don't have a reservation for (whether a stay or a dining one)!

I did point out I was joking, which was in response to it being said they can’t charge you for parking there because we’re paying for it already.

Speaking of parking, I recently had a pretty bizarre experience at Animal Kingdom. I arrived right at the lot's opening time, but when I stopped to pay at the window they simply waved me through. The free parking felt too good to be true, I kept expecting to be towed! Does this happen when the registers are broken or something?

One (very cold) day at AK we were told we were the lucky family of the day and got priority parking right next to the turnstiles. But they still charged us the regular parking fee (this was before you could pay extra for priority parking). I would have rather gotten your deal...

What a load of crap. Given how light the actual benefits of staying on property are these days, taking away the ability to park anywhere at the resort without additional charge, especially the hotel you are staying at, is really just pathetic.

Yeah, yeah, other places do it - that's not a justification for it. Staying on Disney property purports to be a somewhat inclusive experience, and this just takes a large dent out of that. It also really just puts a terrible taste in my mouth - I just don't stay at places that charge for parking. I find it ludicrous and I refuse to do it.

Technically it would be "staying on your membership". So a DVC discounted cash stay would still qualify. But I know what you mean!

But going forward, I still don't think they could charge for parking at a resort you were staying at "on your membership". Unless they cut the MFs of course :joyfull:
In your scenario, you would need to pay in Aulani today

I've priced out hotels in the Disney Springs area in the past, which charge daily resort fees and parking fees. When I've added the all-in price for those, they become comparable to WDW resorts before any fees are implemented.

And when you look into what you can get off-site, it's just not even a question of where actual value is, once you get past the whole "romance" of staying on-site. Just the savings on food alone is nearing astronomical, and with this, even if you are taking an uber because you don't want to drive, staying off-site is only gaining in attractiveness. When you weigh it versus being herded around the WDW resort in stinky buses with no schedules, stuck captive paying ridiculous prices for every morsel of food or drink that enters your mouth, and the constant lines/crowds from all the public transportation, basically having the self-autonomy of a school child, it is so hard to figure out what it is except just plain unawareness of all the options out there.

In October we paid over $600 for Poly, and $250 for Royal Pacific, then add in the $22/day parking, so $272.

Cabana Bay Family suites were $170, compared with AoA suite at $360.

I'll take the $22 parking fee over the 100% increase in rate.....

But I do hate paying the fee.[/QUOTE]

And that's not even factoring in the Express Pass value.

I've heard similar things today, with some more specifics. But not confirmed at this time. The pricing I have is high in my opinion.

Have you heard any specifics about how CM's would be affected? Or more specifically, for my purposes "retirees who hold a Maingate (Silver Pass)."

<--- Feeling even better about paying $235 night for a "sea view" room at the Disney Explorers Lodge in Hong Kong in May. (airfare paid from CC points, so this trip is not "expensive due to flights")

This is probably done after watching the Vegas hotels do the same thing. What was free for 65 years is now charged for. Even locals. It’s more money coming in. I don’t like it as much as the next person. Did you think Disney would not start looking for more revenue streams to pay for all the new stuff coming? Iger and the stock market will never be happy until all the money is sucked dry from guests.

Should have softened the blow and made it a resort fee for $20 a day. Gets you WiFi, parking, and bus use. Yes, I know you got all that but resort fee (even though it is a sham too) would have sounded better.

Expect $25 self and $50 valet for overnight and $5 an hour for visitors.

Just book 4 nights at Pop in May. I'd be pretty disappointed to have to pay for parking when I get free parking in the parks.

Below is from their website. Maybe it was waived for your convention...

  • Self and valet parking (self-parking: $18.00, valet parking: $26.00 plus tax, subject to change)

Anyways...fees are lame.
Were you staying on a Convention Room block organized by the group holding the convention or was the convention held on site at the Rosen? Often large convention groups have their parking or resort fees waived as the convention themselves pay for that when hosting an event at the venue/hotel.

For example, the hotel Im working at today has two different conventions in house. One is paying the parking fee for its attendees staying at the hotel, the other is not.

Could be, could be. I just re-checked my guest folio and it is just the room rate and the tax.

And I agree, fees are lame. And as a DVC owner I wonder if they can charge a parking fee for guests staying on points. I hope if they do go through with this that they have some way to validate so I don't have to pay a parking fee to go to Trader Sams.

Sure, but announce it now effective Jan 1. Or give people with existing reservations a voucher. Springing this on people who have trips coming up who didn't plan for it is pretty low.

I just priced out a week in September....

Package for two at Universal with tickets and express pass for a week at Portofino Bay $2800, say you are paying parking at $22 a night that makes it an additional $154. Total: $2954

Same week at Disney Polynesian is $649 a night just hotel puts you at around $4500 and you have not bought tickets or anything else. Currently a 7 day park hopper is $490, multiply that by two your at another $1000 and add estimated $22/day for parking. Total $5634

Total of $2700 over for the Disney Vacation and lodging. Disney is good but is it that good?

Point of this is not to compare Disney to Universal but more or less you are paying crazy hotel rates at Disney because these "fees" should already be absorbed in those prices.
