News WDW Resorts to add fees for parking

All the time. Usually when I stay at YC I walk to both parks. That trip I was staying at all-stars. It's a long explanation on why I drove over to HS, but basically it was to make a Fast pass.

Edit - Every cast member I asked going into HS said they don't tow cars from the park lots. Now that could change...
Same, I walk to both Epcot and HS from the Crescent Lake resorts...

I just stayed there for a convention. Absolutely no parking or resort fees of any kind.

Were you staying on a Convention Room block organized by the group holding the convention or was the convention held on site at the Rosen? Often large convention groups have their parking or resort fees waived as the convention themselves pay for that when hosting an event at the venue/hotel.

For example, the hotel Im working at today has two different conventions in house. One is paying the parking fee for its attendees staying at the hotel, the other is not.

I wouldn't base facts/research on social media. I'd wager that most people using that are younger and would be a poor representation for all of WDW's AP base.

I'm not saying there is no one like what you mention, but that's hardly everyone, or even most. While there are some poor customers that are AP holders, some AP holders are Disney's best. Probably even the majority.

so by utilizing a pass 77 days, I think you should be more than happy to pay $22 for each time you visit. And if you dont want to, there are dozens of people waiting to pay full price to take your space.

Whats your logic? If people buy a higher quantity of something at once, especially in bulk, they typically get a discounted price.

Owners staying on points would not have to pay.
I don't yhink they can just add a parking fee to the DVC resorts in the middle of the year. DVC owners pay for all the costs associated with the resort, that included parking and transportation. In other words we already pay for parking, magic express and the Disney World Transportation system. BTW many of us DVC Members pay for transportation twice as we have annual passes too.

Correct. They can't charge DVC owners for parking. Our maintenance fees pay for the upkeep of the parking lots, so they can't then charge us again to use them.

However, there are questions over DVC members not staying at a resort. If I, as a BLT owner, was staying at BC, can they charge me to park at BLT? I think there's a moral argument that says "no", and of course they can stop me from parking there if I don't have a reservation. What if I do have a reservation though?

Staying on points? Either way they could, but I think staying on points would probably cover you. for the rollout anyway

I've been happily staying off-site lately, and I've occasionally wondered if it would be worth the price to give the on-site hotels another shot. Looks like I've found my answer, thanks Disney!

Speaking of parking, I recently had a pretty bizarre experience at Animal Kingdom. I arrived right at the lot's opening time, but when I stopped to pay at the window they simply waved me through. The free parking felt too good to be true, I kept expecting to be towed! Does this happen when the registers are broken or something?

Ah that’s fair. I’ll just park there in future then, regardless of which resort I’m at (I jest)!

The challenge here is that WDW room rates are already obscenely inflated. The understanding for many was that certain amenities were already baked in with transportation being a HUGE part of that (Magical Express and the park busses are not “free”!). Meanwhile, other resorts have kept their room rates more competitive by adding the dreaded resort fee for items such as parking, the gym and so on. Somehow, I don’t see Disney dropping their rates to compensate for this so either way, it’s not going to go over well from a PR standpoint.

Full disclosure, I’m a local that hasn’t yet unloaded a very pricy DVC contract. The reason being isthat we still do enjoy getting away and staying on property if even just to relax; especially since we already own it! The dues are also out of control with rising costs so this may finally push us over the edge if they also decide to charge parking to DVC.

This will be very interesting to watch both the reaction and response... if it’s true lol

Technically it would be "staying on your membership". So a DVC discounted cash stay would still qualify. But I know what you mean!

But going forward, I still don't think they could charge for parking at a resort you were staying at "on your membership". Unless they cut the MFs of course :joyfull:
