News WDW Resorts to add fees for parking

I've argued in the past when discussions regarding "resort fees" came up that you're already paying for these items (including parking) in the very high daily room rates. The argument that other hotels charge these fees is meaningless when their daily rates are lower on average than WDW resorts. Also, to say that DL charges these fees is not a good comparison as land out there is at a premium. It they start with daily parking fees, and I'm sure other fees to follow, then what exactly are you getting with your high daily room rates?
Rosen Shingle Creek charges for parking. Its literally in the middle of nowhere.

I don't believe there's a lot of factual data on that, that's more of an educated guess. Most of the people who move to Florida to be close to Walt Disney World, from what I can see, work at Walt Disney World, or at least did when they moved to Florida. Cast members are not AP holders.

Orlando is the crown jewel when it comes to people who move there with the specific motivation of going to the park daily. They would live in their cars rather than give up the AP.

At least the people in LA have jobs.
I'm not really sure where you're getting your facts, but I can tell you most people I work with and talk to haven't been to the parks in years. Those that have a pass don't go as often as you would think, maybe once a month if they're lucky. I would say my once or twice a week visit is more of an exception than the rule.

Not sure how people without jobs are affording AP's. The gold value is up to $530 as a renewal price.

We generally park our car and just leave it at the resort for the week, generally we stay at POFQ and the lots never seem to be anywhere near capacity, this makes absolutely no sense to me other than a money grab plain and simple. Honestly if this is the case (depending on the price) it may make more sense to fly, I'd rather pay for a plane ticket than a parking spot...

Im covering area that Spirit has many a time, government assistance, using that pass to run their etsy store/youtube business.

Simple fact is, the person visiting 365 days should pay more than the person visiting 14.

Cool, although I wouldn't say you're in the majority. Others that fly who once would rent a car, may not any longer. Uber will probably be used instead. No point in having a car sitting in a lot for 7 days spending $200 bucks on parking for no reason.
I know a lot of people who fly in and rent a car because the buses aren't great - they take it to all parks with the exception of MK...

Disagree, most of the APs I know are the cheapest people out there. No one rides for free.
Oh ya? lol

I really don't think people running to WDW 365 days a year is as rampant of an issue as you make it appear. I go to the parks a lot. I made it to WDW 58 days in 2017. That's 16% of the year. Most of those days, at least one purchase was made.

I really don't think people running to WDW 365 days a year is as rampant of an issue as you make it appear. I go to the parks a lot. I made it to WDW 77 days in 2017. That's 20% of the year. Most of those days, at least one purchase was made.
so by utilizing a pass 77 days, I think you should be more than happy to pay $22 for each time you visit. And if you dont want to, there are dozens of people waiting to pay full price to take your space.

you'd probably end up getting towed if you tried to leave a car at the parks overnight

I actually asked about that in October. They don't tow (yet) from the parks. I had parked at HS that closed at 8:30 and took transportation to MK that closed at midnight. Then took a bus back to YC to get my car that was still sitting there at 1:30 am.

Not to mention they change the rates whenever they want for whatever reason they want or "season" or view they choose to come up with...
Now they just add insult to injury by rubbing our faces in it....-previously if the poly was 600 or 622 or 619 I wouldn’t be phased because it would be explained as double secret peak season with a semi obstructed parking lot view w bushes. Now they are going to continue that practice AND tack on 20-30 bucks. Because they can...

you walked from YC to HS?

seems maybe it would have been better to just tell a bus driver where you needed to get to and maybe they could take you directly. Occassionally they can do that in the late night hours, a bus driver did that for us once just took us back to all stars from wilderness instead of dropping us off at Disney springs since at that time of night everything at ds was closed and woulda been silly to drop us there to just have to send another bus after us.

1:30am is hardly overnight, i was thinking more they'd do it at like 5am to clear the lot for the next day.

That doesn't make sense. That would be the case if this was a sold out event. They almost never hit capacity, and certainly not for nearly all of his 77 (or 58) days. There are not dozens of people waiting to take his place. Even if you make the case dozens more will be coming in, that has nothing to do with if he let his pass go, that is still a loss of 1. Disney may not care about a loss of 1 due to more coming in, but it's not a 1-1 tradeoff.

I'm not trying to say no hotels charge fees like this, only that WDW resorts have for years built those into their rates. I picked several random nights in August when we normally go to WDW and Rosen was about $160 per night, which is give or take in the range of the All Star resorts. I dare say that looking at pictures for the Rosen the resort looks nicer than an All Star?

I've priced out hotels in the Disney Springs area in the past, which charge daily resort fees and parking fees. When I've added the all-in price for those, they become comparable to WDW resorts before any fees are implemented.

All the time. Usually when I stay at YC I walk to both parks. That trip I was staying at all-stars. It's a long explanation on why I drove over to HS, but basically it was to make a Fast pass.

Edit - Every cast member I asked going into HS said they don't tow cars from the park lots. Now that could change...
