News WDW Resorts to add fees for parking

Swolphin charges for parking. And has a mandatory resort fee, which they say covers paying for WiFi. And they run specials where you can get WiFi "for free", even though you still have to pay for WiFi by way of the mandatory resort fee.

It's still cheaper to stay at a Value and pay for parking there than at the Swolphin.
With all due respect, the values are dumps that would go for $59 in the real world. The Dolphin/Swan are superior on every way. If the Values were $59, which is all they are worth, then you would have a valid point.

Please don’t shoot me but I haven’t noticed an answer to this. I’m DVC - if I stay in a studio at Kidani will I be charged for parking? Anything I’ve read mentions ‘Deluxe Villa’ won’t have to pay.

DVC studios are villas, even if that word isn't always used in the name, so no, you won't, SO LONG AS YOU'RE A DVC MEMBER. (And if you're already booked, you wouldn't pay in any case under the information that's been released so far. Disney's website also currently says that DVC members won't have to pay for parking even at other Disney World hotels, when they book those rooms using their points.)

No way whatsoever...

If anything has potential to be reversed, this does. They're getting a ton of 1-star reviews on their Facebook page, people talking about cancelling their reservations, etc. I haven't seen this type of response before - even the dog situation had a lot of comments, but people weren't leaving 1 star reviews and cancelling their reservations. And people grumbled about ticket hikes, but it wasn't like this.

This may all die down in a few days, nor it may not. This might be the tipping point since it's such a blatent money grab.

GO TO UNIVERSAL They've added a ton of new stuff, Transformers , Jimmy fallon ride, KONG, simpsons springfield expansion, new HArry potter land, fast and the furious, Volcano Bay, ect in just the last few years. Even my father was impressed, and he usually is much more inclined to go a Disney park over Universal.
I haven't been to universal in a very long time but I stopped by citywalk last summer. I was shocked by all of the changes and I agree it was impressive. I'm thinking that Universal will be worth a visit next year.

Looking at the comments on Disneys FB and Twitter and it’s remarkable the negative reaction. I’ve never seen an increase react so poorly on social media for Disney.
Agreed... This is like the straw that broke the camel's back. You still have the people screaming "just don't go!" Well I see both sides but I like to think I am practical with money. I enjoy vacations but there are just some things that make you think twice about wanting to spend money. I don't want to spend money on an existing parking lot. It's not like they built any new parking structure that justifies the additional parking fee.

What is surprising is many of the members of the various WDW Facebook groups are largely indifferent to the parking fees. I have never seen so many "Disney is a business" and "Every other hotel chain does this" arguments in one place in my life.

Disney Pros versus the “typical” Disney guest. Pros have become numb to this and know the Disney modus operendus.

And the rare times I am forced to go to Miami, it’s $35. But the same company doesn’t get to charge me $100 for a theme park ticket. They aren’t virtually assured I will spend every dining dollar at their establishment for the length of my stay. They aren’t likely to have merchandise for sale at every turn.

This hits FL resident AP’s who are outside the Orlando/Tampa areas and not close enough driving distance for a quick day trip.

EXACTLY!

When we talk about things like this and people try to compare WDW to "other places" they don't understand how "other places" work and how very unique WDW is.

Like they bring up a $10 hot dog at a NFL game as a counter to astronomical Disney prices for the cafeteria food they serve - you aren't eating three square meals a day for a week at an NFL game.

In terms of parking, places that charge for it generally either a) have space issues, or b) are using it as a main revenue stream because they are adjacent to a high demand location. In this case, there is no excuse for either. Disney owns every ounce of property and gets every cent you spend already.

Odds on that?

Wdw customers are completely spineless...their own worst enemies

A petition has already been started and is gaining support!

Protests or even boycotts may follow!
