WDW Permits Part 3

Yeah, the Barnstormer one was pretty exciting.

As for the expiration, you were looking at the expiration date of the Notary Public's license, which is 12/02/2010.

HOWEVER, the Notice actually expires 10/29/10. But that just means they have to start construction before that date.

Well, a reliable source from WDI said (at least back when the project was officially announced last year) that Barnstormer would have to be moved slightly (only 10-to-15 feet) to allow things to properly fit as-planned in that area.

Of course, there's no way of knowing if that's still the case. But if it is, this could perhaps be prep-work for that eventual move.

I seem to remember reading in one of the threads, probably a post from Lee that said it wouldn't really need to move.

I can't imagine spending the money to move a roller coaster (even that one). Every single column would have to be pulled out, salvaged, and have a new footing installed.

From what I understand, they're just re-skinning the barn and load area to fit the new circus theme. Disney doesn't even list the ride being closed anytime soon, so it may be purely cosmetic.

09/22/10 Update

Lots of generator fuel tanks being replaced around the World.

Also, audio work starting for Pooh's interactive queue.

Could they be replacing the bridge from the hub and building a new one, or changing the signage above the bridge?? Either way, closing that bridge would make getting into adventureland a major pain.

Maybe a new sign saying:

Permits brought to you today by SeaCastle.

Miscellaneous work around property - the most permits filed in a while (in one day).

Any idea what this is:
[Name Omitted] Control Center - Replacement (Electrical)

The top of the survey says "FOS MOTOR CONTROL CENTER REPLACEMENT" but the words before "CONTROL CENTER REPLACEMENT" were whited out at the bottom.

I tried to find it using the true aerial survey of property, but couldn't pinpoint the actual location. It's probably not exciting, but I'm just curious what the FOS might stand for. So many mysterious buildings back there in the "Admin Area".

Also, they filed a permit just for the stairway in the Pooh building. I will never understand why they don't just file blanket permits for entire refurbs (like they did with FLE).

Looking at the maps on the Orange County Property Appraiser web site it's definitely in the administrative area just north of Port Orleans. I also tried Googleing Disney FOS and ran across one interesting site, http://www.trackshack.com/corporate5k/team-pacing.shtml. It's a site for a race with a bunch or corporate participants and amongst a bunch of Disney teams is "Disney - FOS".

The OC Appraiser site is exactly what I used. Narrowed it down to the SE 1/4 of Section 17. Beyond that, I couldn't line up the lines on the permit survey with any landmarks.

Interesting find on the FOS. I googled FOS but didn't even think to put Disney in front of it. I'm sure it stands for something that starts with "Facilities". Perhaps "Facilities Operations Services" or some acronym with some of those words.

Yes, FOS is Facilities & Operations Services...Under this department is everything from Ride & Show type teams, to Transportation maintenance, to Horticultural teams.

Ah, thank you.

So, basically, everything that isn't something else :)

Today's permits brought to you by SeaCastle.

Electrical work. A couple of cell towers being worked on. But mostly "asphalt mill and overlay" work.

What's "mill and overlay"? It's when they grind (mill) up the top layer of asphalt, spray an asphalt adhesive called the "tack coat", and apply a new surface coat of asphalt.

Typically they replace the top 1" - 1.5" of asphalt during this process, which is referred to as the "surface". If they're being really cheap, they'll only go .5 - 1", but then they'll be doing it again in a few years.

Sometimes this is referred to as "resurfacing" but technically speaking, that's just when you ADD a new surface coat to what's already there, and just mill around the edges so the new cost is flush with adjacent roads/lots.

10/29/10 Update

One of the four permits filed today by BVCC is for Entertainment Building - Construction at 1290 Magic Kingdom Drive.

The address puts it behind FLE, perhaps near the character dressing rooms behind Toontown. Is this actually for a new building, or just construction work on an existing building?

I thought they closed and rehabbed that bridge a couple of years ago.
