A few notable permits today...

One Man's Dream refurb is official (as if it weren't already).

They're replacing toll booths at the TTA. Interested to see what the new ones look like.

Thanks for the update. What do the toll booths at the TTAP look like now? My memory is being jogged on this one.

Hmm... What's a toll booth?

Oh my. Lol, I know what that is, but I didn't know that the TTA had those. Lol,

Oh, I thought you were being sarcastic the first time. Yes, each of the 4 theme parks have toll booths on the entry drives leading to their parking lots. In the case of the MK, it's at the TTC.

Perhaps they are implementing the plans to redo the Magic Kingdom toll plaza? (The ones that involved re-routing major roads.)

Ah yes. Well, they need to file a few more permits (like for road construction, paving, etc).

Where's Raven? I remember him talking about this a while back....I think.

I wouldn't mind that. I really don't like the entrance to the Magic Kingdom parking. It's way too... pink.

Agreed. They can build a magical entrance gateway without it being Princess Pink :p

The new ones look very much like the old ones. As of yesterday all 7 of them were sitting to the east of the toll plaza awaiting installation. One was unboxed so you could see there wasn't much difference in shape or color.

They are still Pink with a purplish stripe.

Interesting.

I'm guessing they're equipped with better insulated walls & glass, and an improved self-contained climate control system. That would be the only reason to replace giant boxes that people stand in all day - as opposed to just "refurbishing" them.

From what I saw of them, there is no indication of air conditioning at this stage but there are many ways to accomplish that so we will have to wait and see.

With the boxes being metal, the environment has taken quite a toll on them over the years. If you look closely at the current ones it becomes clear that refurbishing the current ones was likely cost prohibitive and maybe even unrealistic.

Maybe the new ones are fiberglass or some sort of composite that will hold up to Florida's climate a bit longer.

And I can only presume they'll be fitted with AC or heat of some kind. I haven't see the current ones in person for.....oh.....15 years, but I can only assume they offer some climate control for the poor attendants.

08/10/10 Update

Apparently they're doing some infrastructure work for Osborne Lights. Two permits filed - one for steel work, and one for electrical.

Check out the website for Coastal Steel, the company that filed one of the permits. They have quite an impressive resume, especially at WDW.

Eeks they are responsible for the pin trading hat.

Yeah, but they weren't responsible for the placement of it.

When the hat was originally conceptualized the ears were going to be movie reels, that would have also doubled as Ferris Wheel's. It was going to be at the front of the park, but park ops didn't want it. Instead merchandise said, "we'll take it" and so it becomes a pin store. To me, the placement of the hat is a bigger issue than the hat itself. If the hat was out in front of the park, I don't think anyone would care.
